Option 719 on the 2019 RS - Grumpy Goat - 11-11-2018

So what do you think of this bike? Does the colour work for you? What about the valve covers and the covers on the brake / clutch reservoirs?

RE: Option 719 on the 2019 RS - Lee - 11-11-2018

Hate the color and large decals.
I don't like the silver valve covers.
The front engine cover might look better if it was black with machined highlights.
I like the reservoir covers.
I like the the brake and clutch levers, but they may be the old HP levers and not 719 items.
I like the wheels but our wheel are probably easier to clean.
The seat would be nice if it was not brown.

On the brown bike it appears the decals are under the clear coat, so you can't peel them off.

RE: Option 719 on the 2019 RS - Olgry1 - 11-12-2018

I am not a fan of the brownish color.
I do like the valve covers but I don't think the "look" integrates well with the rest of the bike. That and the fact that with engine protective bars or covers you are paying for something that will be somewhat obstructed from view.
Not fond of the clutch and brake covers.

I am on the same page as you, John. Big Grin I can honestly say that no part of this option does anything for me, but beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder and I am sure that there are some who would like it.

Which show is that?

RE: Option 719 on the 2019 RS - Lee - 11-15-2018

I wonder if the 2019 RS and R will be at any of the Progressive International Motorcycle shows?
The 1st show starts tomorrow.

Always a chance, although this is all BMW says on their website:

Join BMW Motorrad in Long Beach, CA
It's that time of year again! The Progressive International Motorcycle Show is back for the 2018-2019 season. Don't miss your chance to see the new F 750 GS and F 850 GS.

Stop by the Long Beach Convention Center from November 17th - 18th to experience it first. Get your tickets online or at the door.

Since these bikes are out in European dealerships, I am sure that Corporate would at least have some here in the States to display in these shows. They would be dumb not to.

But then they (Corporate) don't represent the marque at the MOA Rallies, from what I can tell, and to me that is strange. Corporate HD goes to Sturgis and that is probably a very good thing.

They were at Des Moines and you could take test rides.
The Nationals we have attended BMW was there with demo bikes.

Oh didn't know that. I stand corrected. The Hamburg Rally back in 2006 didn't have BMW Corporate there; at least not that I can recall. From Darrell's post it doesn't seem that they are committed to attending all shows, which is a shame. I am sure that their presence there would result in many sales and more visibility in the marketplace. But they must know what they are doing.

That seems to be the trend the last few years.
As you mentioned it's very expensive for BMW to attend all the shows.

We used to go to the Chicago show. With the big crowds it was not a good place to check out a new model.

RE: Option 719 on the 2019 RS - midlife - 12-13-2018

it looks like the 719 option colour for the new bike has been taken off for the UK market though you can still get the option 719 wheels on the exclusive model. so we are down too three colours the basic black the crap yellow for the sport and the imperial blue for the exclusive

I think they have completely missed the boat with the new model colours, including this Option 719. Not loving the wheels either.

I cannot believe that exhaust still made it to market on the new bikes.

Did they listen to their customers at all?

Oh I quite like the wheels again.

Very Ducati.

True about the Ducati resemblance. I guess I dislike machine-cut styled wheels on anything. Looks cheap to me. I much like the finished rounded "spokes" on these cast wheels.

About the exhaust ... I am one of the minority who actually likes the lines of the exhaust. Maybe the size is a bit "buxom" but the swoopy lines fit in with the other lines of the body panels. Of course the weight and chrome are things I would have changed. Gunmetal grey or titanium colour tone would have been better aesthetically.

That said, I will be treating my RS to a new-to-me exhaust for Christmas. Watch this site for more details ... Wink

I like the shape and size of the muffler.
The brushed finish looks better than chrome but I wanted the chrome option figuring it would be easier to clean on a trip after riding in rain several hours.

Oh yeah I don’t mind the shape of the thing at all, it’s just that bloody chrome.

It could have made a better rumble out of the box too, like the GS.

Agree on the easy to clean part. The stock muffler is actually pretty easy to live with. That smooth hard shiny finish means stuff does not stick as easily and is easy to wipe off.

The GS does have a pleasing rumble with its stock muffler given that the engine is basically the same, if tuned slightly differently.
