Hello from South Africa - HermanH - 08-27-2019

Hi,

My name is Herman and I own a 2018 R1200RS. Coming from owning a few GS’s, I love this bike. It suites me and my riding style excellently.

Pretty standard, has gearshift assist and a BMW top case and tank bag.

Here is the Lupin Blue I have the hots for. Big Grin Other than that the Granite Grey RS is both good looking and stealthily fast. Big Grin

As I do like this bike. My 2nd BMW and first new one was an R75/5 I bought in Morocco and rode it there for 2 years before trading in for my first R90S. I believe a local dealer has one so might see if they will let take out for a ride. Would not be bike I’d likely travel on but would be a fun local ride around bike.

I like the looks of that model, but I don't like the idea of running tubes.

I was thinking the same thing. It is hard to go backwards once a technological advance is made. Just makes no sense.

RE: Hello from South Africa - Duccrazydave - 08-31-2019

I was under the impression that BMW were one of the first to have a spoke rim that can run tubeless tires, as on the GS. Maybe the look wasn't in line with the retro theme of the R nine T line of bikes.

That's correct, the Cross Spoke wheels on the GS do not need a tube.
I don't think BMW has a Cross Spoke wheel in the current inventory to fit the Heritage bikes and they must not be willing to make new wheel in the correct size.

If someone wants to spend the money, the R Nine T wheels can be shipped to a place like Woody's Wheels and have them sealed so you can run without tubes.

I would factor that into the cost of the RNineT / 5 if I were to be interested in buying it.

Speaking of tubeless spoke rims. These beauties were on an R nine T at the open house event in Greensboro, today

GG. What do you think pulled up in the parking lot, at the open house? That's right. He explained that he was there to uncrate it when it arrived at the dealership. Immediately added a tachometer, small fly screen and a couple of other bits, Said he had owned it for 7 days. Beautiful bike.

If I were to be honest, I would take the tube rims on the RNineT / 5 over those rims ... too fugly to my taste ... Big Grin Sorry Dave. Big Grin

Sweet ... Wonder what that yould have looked like with the small screen. Hope it is tasteful or else it could ruin the look.

RE: Hello from South Africa - Duccrazydave - 09-01-2019

I followed the link Lee put up for those rims. There were certainly other finishes I would have preferred. And the screen on the R nine T was discreet. Wish I had taken a couple of pics of that bike, as well

I believe the R9T Urban GS and Scambler both have tubeless tires.
