Uploading pics - Duccrazydave - 06-19-2018

Wondering the most efficient way to resize pics for uploading. On the previous (and existing) RS site, I sent photos as is. Forgive the noob question, but why the kb limit?
Also, is the reputation button the same as a like?

The question regarding pictures is a good one and I will have to make a thread on that. Smile

Are you on a Windows computer? What version of Windows?

The 500 kB limit is as it is out-of-the-box with this software and it is a decent limit. There is a lot of technical reasons why a photo gets "fat" in terms of byte-size and I will save that for the article, but for anything on the web - BBSs, websites, etc - the host pays 2 ways; storage on the server and also in bandwidth transfer (every time the picture is viewed it is downloaded to the viewer's computer and that takes server horsepower for which someone has to pay. So the smaller the files the smaller the storage and also the smaller the data transfer.

As for "Reputation" and "Like"- not so sure myself. I believe "Like" has to do with the particular post, whereas "Reputation" has to do with the author of the post, and in the case of this BBS software, the posts as well. in other words both users and posts can be rated using the reputation system. MyBBS does not support likes out-of-the-box. Here is more information.

Reputation
MyBB’s reputation system lets users rate other users based on their actions and posts. All ratings are tallied to give every user a total reputation, which can be displayed in their profiles and posts. To help limit abuse, all reputation comments are public, displayed in a simple reputation report along with the comment and value of the rating.

It is possible to rate a single user multiple times, leaving a number of comments on their reputation report. It is also possible to remove the ability to add positive, neutral, or negative reputation points.

To rate a user just click on their name and their details pop up, then rating them is one of the options on their profile visible to you.

Rate posts, too
MyBB 1.6 introduced the ability to rate not just users, but individual posts as well. Every post can be given a rating (negative, neutral, or positive) to be left on the users’ reputation report, allowing users to show they approve - or disapprove - of another’s posts. For post ratings, leaving a comment is optional.

I’m running 7 Pro on my Windows desktop. I’m also using my iPhone and iPad to interact. Thanks for any info!
Cheers, David

Well the Windows 7 Pro is OK for what I have in mind, and there is an excellent free software (which takes donations) that I can recommend - Paint.net. I will base the how-to article on this software.

As for the iPhone / iPad - these OSs should have some sort of photo editing software and I will include features you should look for when getting iOS software for your iPad or iPhone.

I used to be a serious amateur photographer (still am I suppose) so post processing is automatic and natural for me, but I will keep it simple in the how-to.
