Everyone's preference for side stand foot enlargers? Topic settings Jump to foru - azqkr - 03-18-2021

2016 r1200rs, looking for opinions and where to purchase side stand enlarger.

I googled and got a few makers foot enlargers but I'd prefer to get a consensus from members who've bought one and whether they are happy before I put out the cash for one.

Thanks

So let me tell you of my experience. I also was in the same position as you were I thought I needed a side stand foot in larger. I went ahead and bought a Wunderlich foot enlarger (which I think I actually still have, if I can put my hand in it you can have it). Anyway I put the foot enlarger on and one fine day when I was washing my bike I was washing the left side of the bike and bike tipped over and fell on the right side damaging the brake lever. the mirror, and the bar end.

Our side stand is too short to accommodate a foot enlarger. I do not recommend using one, unless the side stand is shortened. That said, I do have a plastic disk that I can use under my side stand of parked on mud. It is much larger than any fixed side stand enlarger and spreads the load better to the soft earth below.

I'm having the stand stop ground down a little for me so it leans over further, I'm also afraid of the bike falling to it/s right side. PM in bound sir.

If I know I'm off-road, I usually carry a coaster in my pocket or tank bag.

I'm not sure that will be enough to use a sidestand foot.
Do the sidestand modification first and see how much the bike leans.

I used sidstand enlargers on our last two bikes and really liked the convenience but I didn't trust one on the RS.
Like the others I carry a plate in my tank bag. I use a piece of aluminum diamond plate.
There used to be a local guy who made running boards for pickup and he would give scraps to motorcycle riders.

Here's what we had on the K1300S. Maybe someone will recognize the brand.
This one was small enough I still used a plate when parking on soft sod.
On the RS we complain about the long sidestand and on the S we complained about the tiny foot.

I was questioning the same thing Lee. Will it be enough to use the side stand foot. I don't want to grind off too much that forces the side stand further forward to the point it may be structurally unsafe just to use a footer.

Once we get this done end of next week without the foot enlarger so the bike leans a little more, I may, like you, go back to carrying a plate like I did with the GS.

I used an electrical plate [ think 4 receptacle size ] that's a blank, attached to 550 paracord which I looped onto my left grip so I didn't ride off and forget it on the GS.

Those work good because they're thin and have a large surface area.
