New transmission, drive shaft, suspension, subframe, and wheelbase.  Will make a great platform for the R/RS in a few years.

The adaptive height control sounds interesting.

I guessing this is not part of the simplification plan that was talked about in the video  Big Grin

That ship sailed years ago Smile

The forged wheel option will be nice. The K bikes and I think the S bikes had that option in the past.

RE: 2024 R1300GS Intro Video - Grumpy Goat - 09-28-2023

I liked the Triple Black in the video but when I went to the Configurator to build it, it didn't look like the one in the video. For one thing, it had cast wheels!  Big Grin

If I am paying this sort of money for that bike it had better come with spoked wheels for a start. Also, not sure I like the star-shaped lighting arrangement in front. Gimmicky is what comes across. I do like some of the bodywork design though, and the lines are sweeter than in the past ... more Ducati-esque. Of course, the technology is great also ... love the electric windshield and the blind spot warning.

I don't know ... after seeing this today (and having completed my first "long" trip with the Tiger - fully loaded and two-up, no less) I am pretty glad I did not wait for this. Cost was a big factor in my decision.

I am seeing two colors of cross spoke wheels available as an option on the Triple Black, so they may have fixed that issue. There are still a lot of errors with the configurator, though.

It would appear so. You'd think that after all this time waiting for the launch, the IT people would be able to program this right. It is not rocket science, especially given that they have had years with the same Configurator platform.

Good to hear that the cross-spoke is available. It was what made me choose my Tiger Rally Pro over the GT Pro, which was what I was initially going to buy. If I somehow still get a GS, it would probably have the spoked wheels. That said, the alloy wheels are a heck of a lot easier to clean than the alloy wheels.

Its early days yet but I have searched Google for images of "2024 R1300GS Triple Black" and none come up with cross-spoke wheels. Weird.

Here is an enhanced screengrab of the bike I'd be interested in:

I wonder how US dealers are feeling about the announcement. A quick check shows around 1,000 new R1250GS models sitting on US dealer floors.  I'm not sure who is going to be jumping on a 1250GS when they finally come out of the Stop Sale order.  Maybe BMW should have waited to do the 1300 release until the dealers can actually sell the bikes they have (and are paying for) on their floors.

The new platform will end up in our garage. But, most likely not until MY2025.

Ahhhh ... you found a picture. Doesn't look so good there. Thanks for putting it up though.

Yeh, the dealer, here in Greensboro, has a completely full BMW showroom (new & used). Friday, I picked up an air filter and the guy was saying they're relying on Ducati sales to carry them through while this gets sorted out. Never thought I would hear that.

I noticed that the last time I was in there too.  They are expecting the 1300's in the spring which gives them time, but they can't last forever.  I am going to throw some service work their way this month.  They are a great dealer.

RE: 2024 R1300GS Intro Video - Grumpy Goat - 09-30-2023

Heard tonight from someone at the MOA Getaway in Kerrville that the stop sale was being lifted and she was expecting to go in on Tuesday to get a 1250GS as an upgrade to her 750GS. She is in San Antonio. There were a couple of guys there from the San Antonio dealership, but I forgot to confirm this before I left the facility at which we were having the closing dinner.

That is awesome news.  I'll be interested to learn the backstory of all of this, if it ever comes out.

Saw this info on driveshaft maintenance for the R1300GS on the R1200R forum.

There's also cutaway pictures of the engine in that same thread.

All make sense, especially the requirements for the cardan shaft. Amazed (and not in a good way) that it took them so long. The rectangular window makes sense as it more closely mimics a vertical gauge. Dual air filters at the snorkels suggests something else is there in the intake path ... hopefully something to justify the extra air filter costs. Filter cartridges are nothing new and more environmentally friendly, as there is no wasted metal. Good move in my opinion.
