As a matter of fact looking at how this muffler is made, I don't doubt that the same can is used across several models but since the mid pipe and bracket were loose (as opposed to being welded to the can like the factory muffler) all Remus has to do is vary the mid pipes and brackets and they have assemblies to fit many bikes. What could have happened is that one of us got a bracket for a different bike ... or they simply changed the design. We'll never know. I do prefer the shorter distance of my installation though. I’m jealous now [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] RE: Installation of my "new-to-me" muffler - Grumpy Goat - 01-05-2019 Well I took the muffler off, disassembled all the bits including the springs, loose fit it back into place so that I was sure to get the mid pipe at the right angle so there was no bending strain on the system. There was no change from before. I slackened the screws in the slotted holes on the bracket so that the muffler could move rearward or forward along its longitudinal axis, and then test fitted the heat shield. Long story short, when the muffler was slid forward as far as it would go, the heat shield looked as it did in the video - no change. When the muffler was slid rearward as far as the slots would allow, the trailing edge of the heat shield was totally clear of the forward "cone" of the muffler (like Dave's) but the more-or-less square cut trailing edge was the wrong angle when compared to the leading edge of the muffler "cone". This bugged me even more than the shortness of the heat shield, so I employed the use of some masking tape, like so: And then made the decision to cut off the offending material, and the final result was this: The heat shield no longer looks like a design SNAFU. From a distance it looks fine to my eyes: Next time I have the rear wheel off, I will slide the muffler forward in the slotted holes and get an even better look - Like Dave's. Problem solved. RE: Installation of my "new-to-me" muffler - Blackshirt - 03-20-2019 I use the Remus exhaust, also. I did a little research on the electronic exhaust valve and found that, unlike Yamaha's EXUP, the BMW unit self-adjusts throughout the rev-range. This means that the exhaust flow is not a whole lot different between the Remus silencer and the stocker. Add in the closed loop FI mapping adapting to new conditions and the Remus exhaust should run very close to the same as stock after a few rides. You will hear more popping and burbling simply because it is louder. Like you, the throaty sound and the looks we're my primary goal ,but the weight loss is certainly welcome. For folks who have yet to do this install, I'd just like to mention how much easier the springs are to install with a spring tool.
