Oh okay. Maybe it’s the same as on my S1000R then.

RE: 2020 R1250RS tomorrow! - runnerhiker - 10-31-2020

I went for a ride again today, now have about 150 miles.

I checked the gearing, it's the same, no change between 1200 and 1250. First impression was, they seemed different.
Heated grips is still a simple button on the right hand cluster. Good.
The front brakes are definitely stronger at first grip. Also good.
This engine is definitely more pleasant than the old one, I am not quite sure now how to describe it. It seems smoother, less noticeable in its presence, like I need to look at the TFT to tell what gear and what RPM it's running. This quality reminds me of my brick K1200 RS, that's a good thing, I loved that brick engine.
I am still finding my way around the TFT, with added features comes complexity. Not a big deal, but there is a learning curve.

I like gadgets, but like simple gadgets Smile
I worry the next generation TFT on the 2021 RT will be more complex than I'll like.
It may be a long time before the RS gets the new TFT since it will require a change to the fairing.

I imagine the difference in brake feel/action is down to a different pad compound or different master/slave bore ratio. A pad change would have a better chance of making it past the bean counters :-)

I thought the same. Regardless, I like it.

I want to remain positive about the TFT learning curve, I expect that a month or so from now I'll be used to it. Here is the type of thing I need to get past: I got gas for the first time yesterday, I was able to reset Trip 1 even though it took 2 or 3 or 4 steps. But then I thought, how about resetting Trip 2? I tried that, I couldn't find it, I looked in the manual when I got home, still couldn't find it! I must have tunnel vision!

2020 R1250RS tomorrow! - Upinsmoke - 11-01-2020

I turned trip 2 off. I only use trip for resets between filling up. The first section has values you can reset individual sections like trip1. It’s like three right clicks of the wonder wheel to get there (or something like that if need to check for sure ). The second screen only allows resetting all values . Personally I wish the sport screen was available. Hopefully one day BMW adds that menu through a firmware update. It’s all under the my vehicle tab.
Once you get used to it , it’s second nature.

I think I would be fine with the current TFT, but the next generation with built in Nav might make my head hurt getting it all figured out.

Sometimes I forget how to do something after not touching the bike for six months Smile

The Sport Screen update is available now for US bikes.

RE: 2020 R1250RS tomorrow! - Lee - 11-01-2020

On my 2016 dash I find it's easier to reset Trip one and Fuel ecomomy 1 at gas stops on my GPS.

Really... when did that get released? I was just in for my 600 mile and it wasn’t available. That’s for the RS? Last I heard it was for the R and S1000.

I saw some posts on the RS forum where a couple RS owners in the US had the update done.

RE: 2020 R1250RS tomorrow! - Lee - 11-01-2020

Found a thread where a California and North Carolina RS owner had the sport screen update done to their RSs.

Thanks Lee for that info. I was in for service and specifically asked about firmware for that service and was told there was none. I’m at version 021_004_040. I was told when they hooked the bike to the computer any updates automatically download. I wonder if this is an optional one or maybes does the dealer have the option of not applying an update.

The service was on Sept 15 so after many of the updates where people received them. Guess I’ll be calling the dealership in Gaithersburg tomorrow.

I will probably do the 600 mile service by the end of this coming week. I'll make sure to ask about it.

I think you have to ask for it. You may, or may not get charged for it.
The one guy mentioned he had it done during a service and was not charged extra for the sport screen update.
It was mentioned at this time you can not set the sport screen as the default display. You have to select it each time you want it.

Reset is done exactly the same way for both trip computer screens. Follow the blue arrow down and you will see the full reset option. Note that you can set the 2nd trip computer to auto reset.

I agree, the sponginess would be directly related to the bore ratio while the stopping force would also depend on the pad compound, calipers being equal.
