I have always found the broken bottles atop the wall intriguing. The lack of rain, in fact a severe drought, has kept the wildflowers sparse this year.
Enjoy the best roads in Texas!

Nice, we'll be in Kerrville and surrounding area next weekend.

Broken bottles atop the wall helps keep folks from climbing over. I've seen it in New Orleans as well.

We have always liked the wall and gate on that ranch. The owner usually has exotic animals you can see from the road. We have not noticed any the last three years.
The broken bottles on the wall are just for looks because you can walk around the end of the wall and climb over a low wire fence Smile

Leaving Leakey today we took 83, 377 and 16 riding northeast. Low was 71 F and high 92.

Stopped at Strawn for ice tea at Mary's. Friendly locals and owner.
I was told no charge when I went to pay for our tea.

We are still seeing restaurants with short hours and motels not having all the rooms available because people are not going back to work.
A lot of times days and hours of business are not up to date.

Saw this sign in Mary's.

Besides the lack of wildflowers we also noticed the motorcycle traffic is way down.
Even the weekend bike traffic was way down.

You didn't get CFS at Mary's? Best is a relative term, but quite possibly the best chicken fried steak on the planet.

I'm not a fan of chicken fried steak or gravy so I was not tempted Smile
I heard about the place a long time ago on Texas Country Reporter.

Lee, it is truly heartwarming to see you and the grand lady transitioned to the red frame. You have moved up in the world. Happy trails.

Today we did the same route as two weeks ago but in reverse.
Left Mena, Ar taking 71 and 28 to Rover, then 309 over Mt Magazine.
Picked 23, the pig Trail and took it to Eureka Springs.
Had Breakfast again at the Skyline and the retired Dr remembers our good parking job from 2 weeks ago Smile

Stopped at the Lodge again for a break and the TurnerBend store.

Interesting place to stow helmets.

RE: A Few Pictures From This Week - Lee - 04-25-2022

Made it home yesterday.
Started to rain right after we got out of the curves on 62 north of Eureka Springs.
Temps quickly dropped to low 50s during the rain and we put on our heated jackets.
The rain only lasted a little over a hour.
The hardest part of the day was several hours in the afternoon with 45 mph cross winds.

Arkansas looked like it had a lot of rain since we were there two weeks ago. Rivers and creeks were up and standing water in some of the fields.
They had flood warnings for yesterday and today.

Rain without thunder is not a huge deal. 45 mph cross winds is my biggest dislike, I guess, like you yesterday, it happens when I am trying to get somewhere and I just have to take it. It tires me out.

We had thought of staying in Eureka Springs several days but Sunday looked like the best weather day to get back. We were fine when the wind was a tailwind but not fine when it turned into a crosswind Smile

We had a lot of wind this trip but it was not a problem because we were usually protected by trees and hills.
