FORGED WHEELS - WALRUS - 01-07-2024

Searched and didn't find a similar thread. Apologies if one exists.
Has anyone fitted meg alloy on their 2023 (and similar years) R1250 Rs?
If so, what brand? And could you kindly provide feedback?
OZ factory rep says it does not make wheels for this model. BTS makes a front, but only a 6 in rear rim - but I've ruled out CF for safety concerns (not to start a war), which is a strictly personal decision based on research and talk with some of my follow racers who use them in CCS, where they are apparently not banned. Also, I'm aware of the structural limitations of mags but I want to improve the handling just like I decatted my bike for the slight weight savings and performance boost.
I'm in discussion with Magtan Japan to create a custom wheel for my bike at a reasonable price, but a three-month lead time. Just looking for other options and real-world input.
Thanks in advance.

RE: FORGED WHEELS - Lee - 01-07-2024

BMW has forged wheels for some of the models like K1300S and S1000RR but I don't know if they have a set for the R1250RS.

RE: FORGED WHEELS - c10 - 01-07-2024

The RS wheels are already quiet light compared to many OEM cast wheels .  You can probably make a M series front wheel work from the S1000XR

Have you weighed the OEM wheels yet ?

RE: FORGED WHEELS - Ray - 01-07-2024

Forgot. Did you already upgrade the suspension? (For me, fine tuning suspension produced the most dramatic change in performance to this bike.)

RE: FORGED WHEELS - Pyrrho - 01-07-2024

BMW added a forged enduro wheel option for the R1300GS. Sooooo hot.

RE: FORGED WHEELS - Lee - 01-08-2024

A friend had 2 K1300S with cast wheels, then his current 2016 K1300S Motosport with forged wheels.
He said the lighter forged wheels made a noticeable difference.
Seems odd the GS has the forged wheel option and the RS doesn't.

While I was typing my friend called. He said the set of S forged wheels were 3.2 pounds lighter than the cast wheels.

Not at all surprised. Makes no sense other than to give the option to the vastly larger boxer demographic and to make money. The forged wheels make the trips to Starbucks than much sweeter.  Big Grin

Lmao, Goat.
I make my own coffee and like to ride on mountain/curvy farm roads, which are found in many part of Oklahoma and nearby states.  Though getting to them usually involves some straight stuff.
Appreciate the input.
I've committed to the Japanese company, which is investigating if they can make them.
Meanwhile, new disaster! My full TI arrow exhaust system was cancelled.
Guess I'll have to shave weight by going on a diet, which ain't no fun!

Hehehe ... me too, on the coffee. I believe I only paid for a Starbucks coffee once in my life, although I have nothing against the company itself. I would not refuse Starbucks paid for by others though ...  Big Grin

As for weight savings ... I have to laugh whenever I see that topic come up ... usually by people who have a few pounds to lose (and I am being kind here) yet they are looking to save a pound here or there on this or that component, that they are willing to spend big bucks to get.  Big Grin Still, it's their money and their fun, so I say to them go for it ... only problem is the artificial inflation of prices across the board of anything related to motorcycling ... Undecided

Sorry to hear that your Arrow exhaust upgrade fell through.

I agree on most of the weight saving efforts on motorcycles, but wheels is one of the best places to save weight.

RE: FORGED WHEELS - WALRUS - 01-10-2024

I put Marvic wheels on my dual spark Ducati 1000 Supersport racer, made a dramatic change. Thought I'd duplicate on my Beemer, though my Street Glide could probably benefit from them more. I'll see how this Japanese manufacturer does and maybe upgrade on the Harley too. But my fat-ass signature wheels on my Fat Boy are staying.
Wheel are like a nose job for motorcycles! Change looks and abilities to find romance.

With the big advantage that it also reduces the unsprung weight.

RE: FORGED WHEELS - WALRUS - 01-13-2024

I'm surprised how rare aftermarket stuff is for the RS.
As noted elsewhere in this thread, my Arrow racing exhaust order was canceled.
After extensive fruitless searching, I believe the Akrapovic is my only de-cat option. This sucks due to the price. Though I have run AK full exhausts on other bikes.

Compared to GS and RT sales, the RS is a pittance.

How many RS are sold/produced each year?
