120 miles today - WALRUS - 01-28-2024 Hey, I know that's not far, but it's the first day in two weeks of rain and freezing temps that was good enough to ride. I've had the bike since November and have less than 400 miles - so I'm crowing. Had a chance encounter with another rider on a GS1200, which is a very nice machine. I'm surprising at how much protection the fairing and tiny screen give. I've decided to keep the screen in low position. Meanwhile, bike is very comfortable and flickable. Happy with my decision. RE: 120 miles today - Motorhead1977 - 01-29-2024 Glad you were able to get out and ride. Your reaction about the RS is a regular one. Enjoy and of course, let the farkles get acquired and installed! After all it is winter ❄️ RE: 120 miles today - colirv - 01-29-2024 (01-28-2024, 11:36 PM)WALRUS Wrote: I'm surprising at how much protection the fairing and tiny screen give. Phew! I thought I was the only one happy with the standard sceen. I know two people who are happy with the BMW screen ![]() We also had the BMW screen on our R1200RSs. More comfy, freer revving (but still under 600 miles so have rev limiter), sounds less like my granny's pedal sewing machine. RE: 120 miles today - Boxerboy55 - 02-09-2024 Screens! A never ending thread in all forums ![]() I must be the guy with the smallest screen. Chopped original. Peace at last. RE: 120 miles today - Toruk - 02-10-2024 Boxerboy 55 .... I've been wondering if a shorter windscreen would be better than stock! I'd appreciate more feedback from you. I'm riding a 23 RS and came off a 2004 Kawasaki ZRX which has a small screen and is more naked. Thanks! Shorter windscreens / no windscreens are usually better for smoothness of airflow, cooler summer riding, and lack of buffeting. A larger windscreen (like that on the RS) would be better for longer-distance and all weather riding. An even larger windscreen could lead to more buffeting and more heat build-up during summer months, but is likely better for rain protection and for listening to your headset. The extra air helps to blow the water off our face-shields. RE: 120 miles today - WALRUS - 04-04-2024 Still love the RS! New custom mag racing wheels (in BMW racing blue) coming from Japan n about five weeks. Can't wait. Will put on same wave rotors (just for looks) and think my mods will be done - unless someone can suggest an engine build. Faster/quicker is always better, hence the lighter rims. Will post pix and ride notes, of course. It's such a wonderful bilke. I'm so surprised it flies so low under the radar. What I preferred when I bought the bike in 2016 has changed drastically. Other than chilly weather, I'm running the stock screen in the lowest position. When I bought the bike, I thought the screen was too small and low. RE: 120 miles today - NormR - 04-11-2024 At the moment, I can live with the original screen in lower position without complaining except.......the relocated GPS is now at an awkward angle so it doesn't touch the screen :p RE: 120 miles today - Chris216 - 04-12-2024 (04-04-2024, 09:03 AM)WALRUS Wrote: Still love the RS! This last Thursday I rode OXCART, my '22 RS, from Republic, WA to my secret HQ in the Snoqualmie Valley. It was a fun ride. Passed some slow movers on Hwy 97 and got to XXX mph on the way back in. At no time on this ride did I wish my windshield was higher (could'a flipped up but didn't) or lower. We (the bike and me) were in the bubble. Movin' at the speed of heat. The machine totally took care of Hwy 2 on the way back in. I like those red wheels on the earlier post, but if I was gonna get some serious powdercoating done, I'd pull the rear sub-frame and get it coated red to match the front frame. What a bike! What a bike! Wish our bikes had the full red frame like the R1200R had. |
