Nav VI question - NormR - 04-18-2024 To start, I am still getting acclimated to everything BMW. I'll try to explain this as well as I can. The last ride I was following the NAV (no destination) on a road following a river. I noticed the Nav has my location icon (little bike) following the road. However, the Nav seemed to 'lose" my location icon as I progressed on the ride which bothered me as was keeping track to upcoming "forks in the road" to stay parallel to the river. I wasn't manually adjusting the zoom in/out, although when I lost my icon I would "use" backtrack to find my location again. Is this normal? Its different then google maps of course....... What Navigator model are you using? In my experience, the map display (i.e. alternate view when no destination is defined) is not as precise (as when you are navigating to an input destination), and is intended to show an overview of major roads, etc. For this reason it starts out really zoomed out, and when zoomed in, you could be zoomed in too much resulting in the bike being off the displayed map. I don't believe that in this display mode the icon is [more or less] fixed at a general location on the screen. Unless I missed my guess, what I am trying to say is that maybe in this display you are covering ground too fast for this map display to catch up, at the zoom level you are at. That said, I am no expert at using this map view (as I hardly use it) so I could be wrong, of course. RE: Nav VI question - Lee - 04-18-2024 A lot of times I use my Nav V without a destination and the bike location is always visible. I don't see why the Nav VI would be different. Its the NAV VI, Like Lee mentioned the Nav V keeps the bike icon always in view so I expect the nav vi to do the same. I guess another ride will have to be completed to do more tests RE: Nav VI question - Becksy - 04-19-2024 Could be your nav was losing the GPS signal. What sort of road was it, trees, gorge? Also, an actual road presumably not a back country track? A new road? Is your map up to date? Thanks for confirming the model; I too have the Nav VI. In my reply above I was not referring to the default map / navigation mode - in that mode the bike icon is always in the display, no matter the zoom level. The map mode I am referring to is the alternate overview mode which you see when you tap on the title bar on the top of the normal display screen. I believe that in that mode, it is possible with the zoom level set, to have the icon off the map. Having said that, I have now actually got my Nav VI out and have to now clarify that the alternate overview mode is not available when you are riding without a destination defined, so my initial offering does not apply to this discussion since you said that you are riding without an input destination. On my device, in the non-navigatin mode you are speaking about, I always see the bike icon no matter what the zoom level, so I have no solution for you after all. Sorry. RE: Nav VI question - runnerhiker - 04-19-2024 I have a NAV V and a NAV VI, I have never experienced this problem. What Becksy said is what I would say. |
