broken "ear" that supports the screen - grantm - 08-06-2024 my 1200RS has a broken "ear" the LHS part that holds the arm that lifts and lowers the screen...dealer is getting me a new one, but wonder if anyone else has ever had that problem ? ...bike has only done 13k km RE: broken "ear" that supports the screen - 36654 - 08-07-2024 If that just happened, check the breakline (surface) for differences in color. That might give an indication if this is a gradual problem or a sudden event. How old is the bike? RE: broken "ear" that supports the screen - Lee - 08-07-2024 I have not heard of that part breaking. Did you buy the bike used? Maybe the previous owner had a bird strike? Not a cheap part to replace. $415 plus labor RE: broken "ear" that supports the screen - Duckbubbles - 08-07-2024 YIKES! That is part of the Front Panel Center Carrier 46638546875. The whole front end has to come apart to replace it. I don't know about availability now, but a couple of years ago I had to replace it on my '17 RS and had to wait a month or more for it to come from Germany. It seems to be made out of "sponge" metal as it is unbelievably light weight. Maybe a tip over cracked it in the past? Good luck. Frank RE: broken "ear" that supports the screen - Lee - 08-07-2024 Sitting here at a ice cream stand and checked mine. The Silver mount looks and feel like plastic. First time to have my RS out in 3 months. They never noticed it as it wasn't obvious as there is a cover over the top of those ears. - But as my screen was vibrating when the screen was up at 100k i investigated and found it when the cover was off - ie take screen off , then the cover and there it was. Sometimes, the oxidation on the surfaces of the break can indicate if the crack was a work in progress over a long time or just that occurred all at once. |
