Broke my mirror off! - SoCalR1200RS - 05-14-2025

Has anyone had this happen to them before? A box, not even a heavy one, fell onto my poor bike in my garage and the mirror mount snapped off!

Anyone know where I can source a replacement? I'm also imagining to swap it is going to be quite to job as I'll need to access the underside of the fairing.

Edit: I'm really annoyed with BMW right now. I called my closest dealer and they confirm that BMW only sells the Mirror as a complete assembly. How frickin stupid is that! I'm not paying $100-200+ (OEM price) for an entire new mirror when my mirror is perfectly fine... This part should be like $30 MAX.

Does anyone know of any aftermarket mirrors? Ideally, one that uses the same base? I don't want to use 3rd party, but I think it's absurd to have to buy a whole new mirror I don't need. I've never had another bike that's like that.

EBay: Left side, Both (to guarantee a perfect match)
Amazon: Left Side, Both

Its a mirror so if it were me I'd go with aftermarket knock-off. The BMW metal proved to be inferior anyway - porous aerated mystery metal, judging from the fracture plane shown in your photo. I bought AM mirrors before and they were fine.

I think that the replacement is simpler than you think.

When were were on a trip someoneĀ  knocked over Debbie's R1200RS.
I was able to glue the base back together with JB Weld so she would have use of the mirror for the remainder of the trip.

After we returned home I got a new mirror and replaced the other damage.
You should be able to reach the three mirror base bolts with only removing the one inner panel.
This piece

Here's the hole in the fairing for the three bolts. From memory you do not need to remove this piece.

Three bolts on the mirror base

I think the three bolts pass through the back side of the grey part that has three holes.

If you do a neat job with the JB Weld and paint it, you may be able to salvage the original base.

Right. These are breakaway mirrors. I've replaced 3.... (I know; don't ask.)

It's good engineering. They break at a point no one gets speared in an accident.

Easy fix.

Wow, nice job fellas on the replies to SoCal's initial post.

It's cheaper for the mirror to break instead of the fairing or the attachment point under the fairing.
It would be nice if the mount was sold as a separate piece but BMW never thinks to ask for my advice Smile

Grumpy and Lee, thanks as always for the help! Yes, I agree that's it's better for this part to break than something more structural and difficult to replace, but why they can't offer the mirror/stem, and base as two separate parts is frustrating to say the least.

Because to offer the mirror and base separately would allow you to spend less money for a repair. Very un BMW like, no?
