Corrosion - any problems with your RS? - Grumpy Goat - 02-03-2019

I see the occasional (frequent?) mention on the other forum about corrosion on various parts of the RS, and it seems to me that most of the reports are coming from the European owners (specifically the UK). The way some of those owners talk, these are "rust-buckets" ...

I have had my RS for 3+ years / 32k+ miles so far and, knock on wood, have seen no corrosion. The only wear I have seen is slight scuffing abrasion where my boot touches the rearsets or my jacket brushes the tank. My bike is garage kept and the climate here in Houston is not that damp and is certainly not salty. I wash it enough to keep any spots at bay.

What about your bikes? Have you seen corrosion, and if so where?

No corrosion on ours so far.

I've not seen any on mine either. The only thing I've noticed is the road debris off the front tire removing some the paint off the center stand cross member. But I had that on every bike I've owned even with a fender extender on some of them.

I'm with Darrell on this one. Only the center section of the stand. Although, for what it's worth, the paint on the rims is less durable than any previous bike I've owned

Yep, exactly my experiences too.

Same here.

Agree. I've got nicks from the installation of a new set of tires (thanks, BMW shop) and a spot on the rear wheel where a small stone must have hit the inside of the wheel and took out three small areas of paint.

I too have a nick on the rim that I would love to touch up. Anyone manage to get the correct touch-up paint for the rims?

must be the shit they put on the roads in the UK through our winter time. Though nothing obvious on mine over a year and a half but only done 5000 miles

Mine is pretty much pristine, but the mileage is low and my shop is climate controlled. The drier air is good for my tools, my motorcycles, my bicycles, my camping gear, and my comic books. It's easier to keep the chickens out with the doors closed, too.

Mine is good even in the UK North West where weather can be grim and salting the roads is common in the colder months. My bike is garaged and used all year round.

I suspect this is mainly due to a lot of time, elbow grease and money spent on ACF50, SDOC100, Silicon spray and WD40 where appropriate.
