Turn Signal Bulbs - BobAin'tStoppin' - 05-25-2019 The other day I started the bike and immediately got a bulb out warning for the left rear turn signal. This is the first bulb failure I’ve had in about 10 years. Last was low beam on my F800 while on a trip in 2008. Anyway, it turns out the 5009 bulb is basically unobtainium except at a motorcycle dealer. I ordered on Amazon on 5/22 and now have delivery schedule of 6/14 to 7/8 (shipped from China). Doesn’t do much good for me with Helen coming up. So yesterday I went to Wagner’s (closest dealer in Worcester, MA) anc got the bulb plus a spare. Also got a spare battery for the key fob so I don’t get stranded. These spares will be in my tank bag from now on. I guess this says something about the quality of our chosen ride. Can’t find any real problems to post about Does anyone know about an led option that doesn’t require resistor games? But I can buy an awful lot of bulbs for that kind of money. Guess I’ll stick with the stock item. RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - Lee - 05-25-2019 (05-25-2019, 02:46 PM)BobAintStoppin Wrote: Very nice Lee. RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - Grumpy Goat - 05-25-2019 True. I have been looking at these Weisers for a while but simply cannot pull the trigger. For what it does the price is BS, simply put. RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - JWMcDonald - 05-25-2019 I installed Dynamic Motorrad LED turn signal bulbs (http://dynamicmotorrad.com/) very early on (at ~ $130v w/ shipping) on my 2016 R1200RS and haven't looked back. Not the feature set of the Weisers but perform well for going on 3 years. RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - Duccrazydave - 05-26-2019 Weiser does offer just the LED replacements, but are still priced higher than the Dynamicmottorad set. They're very, very bright. Because from where I sit on the R1250RS I can see the front turn signals, when it gets dark they are distracting and reduce night vision. Weiser suggested putting a strip of black electrical tape on the inside of the lens--I went with yellow tape and can now ride comfortably. The only think that really took getting used to was the timing. As you might expect, the white light goes out when the turn signals come on. When the turn signals stop, there are a couple of beats before the white light comes on. The delay is so pronounced that the first few times I experienced the sudden appearance of a bright, white light in my peripheral vision I thought I was about to be hit by a car which suddenly appeared to the side. So they're more expensive than Photon Blasters, which have great lighting but the manufacturing...(one could start a business selling accessory mounting brackets for Photon Blaster accessories), but they make me more visible so I think worth it. RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - Duccrazydave - 07-23-2021 Maybe this has surfaced before. Has anyone replaced the small headlight "running lights" with LED versions? That's all I have left to swap on my '16. RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - maxredline - 02-02-2022 LEDs yes! Love the video GG Super bright LEDs https://www.superbrightleds.com/vehicle/2016-bmw-r1200rs-vehicle-led-lights?make=11&model=3120&year=2016 I see they have the turn signal bulbs for $6.95 usd each. Did you need to change the blinker controller to handle the LEDs? RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - Grumpy Goat - 02-02-2022 (02-02-2022, 09:55 AM)maxredline Wrote: LEDs yes! Love the video GG Nope. Straight plug and play ... just as I like it. And the bulbs are still going strong (not that I expected otherwise) and bright as hell. Rode the bike to work yesterday while it was still dark and was still amazed. So happy with this purchase, and saved a bunch over the fancier Weiser Teknik bulbs (which I do also like for the dual function, but with my Denalis I don't need the white function). RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - Lee - 02-02-2022 When we were at Engles Saturday I saw they had a 2016 RS with thin LED light strips on the leading edges of the side fairings. They come on with the turn signal or 4 way flashers. Very bright and hard to miss. Each strip had 12 tiny LEDs. RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - Grumpy Goat - 02-02-2022 Not at all a fan of that. IMO, with the turn signals having the brighter bulbs that is more than sufficient. To me the strips look gaudy. They're not as noticeable as a lot of add on brake and driving lights when not on. RE: Turn Signal Bulbs - maxredline - 02-03-2022 (02-02-2022, 09:46 PM)Grumpy Goat Wrote: Not at all a fan of that. I have to agree but in some cultures (like my girlfriends) things are never bright or loud enough |
