The new R1250RS are showing up in showrooms .... in the UK - Grumpy Goat - 07-09-2019

Apparently according to reports on the "European" RS Forum (Smile) the new RS is starting to "appear" in various UK dealership showrooms as a one-off / not-for-sale deal. So far I have not been able to discern when for-sale units will be made available to those folks. There is one guy in Canada who seems to think that he will get his ordered one at the end of this month.

I have not heard anything from our local US dealers, but then I have not been to any local dealer in about a month. I do have a standing request in to one friendly salesman to call me as soon as one comes in for me to test ride it. No call yet. Last I heard (some time ago) they were mumbling something like September this year but that could have changed.

Anyone here know anything more on that?

I still think it's bizarre the UK dealers have bikes on the showroom floor that are only for demo rides and no RSs can be purchased until September.
I saw the post about a Canadian member about to get his RS this summer, but so far I have only heard rumors about when or if the RS will be available in the US.

Also rumors that there will be no US distribution for this bike. Perhaps we are just too few to make it worth the effort? Looks like the continent will get bikes in September just like BMW promised.

I certainly hope that this rumour is not true, even if the US market is small. After all what does it cost them to put a few in the dealership. They will sell. All the more reason why we have to support sites and forums (fora) such as this so that the word will get out and the veil of ignorance about this model will be lifted.

Canada gets the new RS.
I wonder if BMW Canada and BMW USA make the decision of which bikes they will bring in, or does Germany make that call?

Do they have to do a separate EPA certification for each bike model? Or is the same engine in all the boxers make for just one submission?

Probably not unless there is money involved and the government just wants to get revenue from unnecessary certification.

Best case scenario is that every importing country checks their environmental requirements and if the vehicle is certified by a recognized authority to a higher standard then no additional certification is needed. On the other hand if their standard is higher (or different) then certification might be required.

That would be my guess.

I don’t know GG. You’re giving way too much credit to the government. I’m pretty sure that BMW would have to go through the certification process for each engine. And it might be that just having a different silencer on our bike vs a GS that more effort/cost would be involved to bring our RS into the country. If that’s the case, maybe the sales numbers don’t justify the cost.

You may well be right, especially in this current climate of protectionism.
