Hella High Wattage 100W Bulbs - Grumpy Goat - 02-04-2020

In my quest for brighter down-road lighting balanced against longevity and cost, I am always on the lookout for the best alternative when it comes to upgrading the standard headlights on our bikes.

I recently saw this on Amazon and decided to give it a try. Anyone had these bulbs fitted and what was your experience? Brightness? Longevity?

While I expect a brighter (but still yellowish) light, I am a little concerned about the added heat that the 100W (nominal) rating will produce. The price was great so even if it is a failure I only stand to lose $13.45 for the pair of bulbs. Silverstar Ultra H7 bulbs cost $43.99 for a pair, and they don't last very long.

I had used 65 watt Osram bulbs in the past. With those bulbs I had no heat issues nor any codes on the can bus system. The lighting performance was an improvement over stock bulbs but not a night and day difference. Unfortunately Osram no longer makes the 65 watt bulbs I used.

Thanks John. I do hope to get a bigger difference with the 100W bulb, so it should be closer to night into day experience.

You better keep an eye on the reflector. They can melt and burn. My buddies F800 had this problem with the stock 55 watt bulb. This was an issue with the F800 series. Of course it happened gradually and he only noticed it after the warranty expired. I would also be a bit concerned about the 8 amps the bulb will draw. Hopefully the switch and wiring are up to the task.

He's already had problems with the plastic bulb connector.
I would worry about too much heat from a 100 W bulb.

And that was with only using standard wattage bulbs. To be sure I will be taking temperatures at both the front and on the connectors at back whenever I install these.
