KLIM Torrent Storm Collar | Initial Impressions - Grumpy Goat - 03-03-2020 Just a quick video to show the fit up of my KLIM Torrent Storm Collar with my KLIM Latitude Jacket. The material and construction is of a good quality and seems that it should be durable with proper care. I may be rain testing this soon, so look for a future video review. One of our jackets, BMW Streetguard 4, has a removable storm collar with hood to help seal out rain but neither one of us use it. It's too stiff and restricts head movement. The Klim collar looks thin enough to not be annoying. While there is some thickness and limited stretchiness to the fabric, it is flexible enough to be non-restrictive. I anticipate no problems in that regard. Lets see how much of a PITA it is to tuck under and to stay in place ... ![]() RE: KLIM Torrent Storm Collar | Initial Impressions - Lee - 03-03-2020 (03-03-2020, 12:32 PM)Grumpy Goat Wrote: Lets see how much of a PITA it is to tuck under and to stay in place ... Not if you’re not riding and there is no breeze to blow it down, I guess. How often are you just walking around the house, neighborhood, shops, etc. with your helmet and neck warmer on? And at what foot speed does said neck warmer start to creep down ![]() RE: KLIM Torrent Storm Collar | Initial Impressions - Grumpy Goat - 03-04-2020 (03-04-2020, 05:25 AM)Duccrazydave Wrote: Alright Wayne, now I have to ask. Dave you caught me out!! ![]() ![]() In all seriousness though, I am hopeful - but a little skeptical - about its performance on the bike in real rain. How heavy the rain and how fast the speed will be determining factors on whether the water gets in. Going on a 4-day road trip to DeGray Lake State Park starting Friday, and that may end with some rain on the way back on Monday. I will try and do a wet review at that time. RE: KLIM Torrent Storm Collar | Initial Impressions - Chris216 - 03-04-2020 I recently bought a FreezeOut brand neck warmer tube. It seems to be warm and block the wind well (not sure about water proof), it has enough elastic to stay up while riding at some speed. I don't think I'd want to wear it in warmer weather though. Lee, I was not being facetious. It was a serious answer. As a matter of fact, since your question was non-specific about whether one was moving or not, my answer was (to my way of thinking) right on point. The material is stiff enough that if I put it on and do not tuck it under my helmet, it does not seem that it would fall down. It stays as is. Further, and still without it being tucked in, if a breeze were to blow I expect it may crumble down. Of course I literally have no experience with this storm collar other than in the video. Lastly, if on the bike and it is not tucked in then I imagine the apparent wind alone would push it down. My worry is not at the top of the collar but at the bottom. It simply spreads across the shoulders and upper chest and back and probably relies on the same apparent wind to keep it pressed against the front of the jacket thereby keeping the water out. However if the wind were to swirl, e.g. if there was turbulence, then that bottom edge could flip up and allow the ingress of the rain. How is that answer? 😀 Says the same thing but with a lot more words. I like Cycle Gear Freeze Out products - good value for money. This storm collar does not claim to be a neck warmer, although it seems ever bit as warm as the non-waterproof Sedici neck gaiter I already have. RE: KLIM Torrent Storm Collar | Initial Impressions - Duccrazydave - 03-04-2020 I have the Freeze Out neck roll, as well. Certainly no water resistant claims with it, but it does an excellent job in the cold temps, and stays up at any speed. Probably because of the elastic at each end. I didn't mean to sidetrack the thread with my sarcasm, Wayne, but in the 3 months, while waiting for my Ducati to arrive (many moons ago), I wore my new CoolTech leather jacket and Shoei helmet around the house enough times that my wife started wondering what was wrong with me ![]() RE: KLIM Torrent Storm Collar | Initial Impressions - Grumpy Goat - 03-05-2020 (03-04-2020, 09:59 PM)Duccrazydave Wrote: I didn't mean to sidetrack the thread with my sarcasm, Wayne, but in the 3 months, while waiting for my Ducati to arrive (many moons ago), I wore my new CoolTech leather jacket and Shoei helmet around the house enough times that my wife started wondering what was wrong with me Dave no worries at all. I like a bit of humour and silliness sometimes. I never did wear my gear around the house, even to break in, largely because I tend to feel hot quickly. Starting tomorrow I will be testing all this Gore-Tex gear on an actual road trip. Looking forward to it. ![]() Probably won't wear the Storm Collar till Monday though, as that has a chance of rain as we make our way back to Houston from the DeGray area in Arkansas. More to keep the wind from going down my collar into my jacket as it was very cool. I had the strap outside the collar. Worked well. The bottom edge stayed well in place.
