I Have a Collection! - BobAin'tStoppin' - 04-08-2020

As some of you know, I'm getting to the age where it's time to slow down a bit. Over the winter I've been watching Itchy Boots and have taken the plunge. For the first time ever, I own two bikes at the same time. The Himmie will be for local riding and small trips to ride the dirt roads in the more rural areas of New England. The RS saved for longer trips on the road.

So here is the new machine:

Bob, Congratulations on your growing collection of bikes. Thanks to Itchy Boots I too was at one point considering a Himalayan as well, figuring that if she could ride it all over the world with all her gear then it can't be that bad. Smile Looks like you and I were on the same wavelength. Smile

I think that it is a great bike that is simple and inexpensive to own and run, and reliable too. Good luck to you and Himmie.

I've always wondered what it's like to own more than one motorcycle at a time. Keep us posted. You're leading the way.

(I see knobbies and a KTM or F-series GS in your future....)

I am playing with the idea of having the local dealership bring this one in from their sister dealership in Oklahoma City. 2015 Triumph Tiger 800 XCx.

Grumpy. I don't see the Himalayan type bike being any good in Texas. The small displacement thumpers are not good on the interstate. Max comfortable cruising would be about 65mph. Unless you are right nest to the hill country. About the tiger, everyone I know that bought one of these soon parted with it. Don't really know why. I'm in the BMW club, so maybe that was part of it.

That was my real hesitation with the Himalayan ... on the highways we have it would be no good, and driving long hours loaded at 65 mph seems like it would be too much of a strain on my and the motorcycle. Here you need to ride highways to get to anywhere decent to ride so good highway capabilities (and cruise) is a must.

The Tiger has its strengths and seems like it would suit my style perfectly. Lovely engine and decent off-road capabilities which would far outstrip my off road competence. It seems to be more biased towards road use and that suits me perfectly. The reviews seem to be pretty good on the bike too. I am still playing with the idea though ... Smile
