Got jumped by a Viper this evening - Rotorwrench - 07-29-2020

Heading home from work and pulled up to a Red light with a Dodge Viper staged in the lane next to me. I looked at him and he looked at me. That's all she wrote. The Viper sounded great but I didn't have a lot of time to hear it as it dissipated in my rear view mirror.

Well done! Best testimonial yet for the vibration free nature of the mirrors on the RS :-)

The Viper driver lacked commitment. My brother owned a Gen 2 Viper for many years. They are not to be underestimated.

From what i saw an RR preferably on a track would be needed to keep up. I don't know what there like off the line, good to hear the RS walked away from this one.

On paper, the Dodge Viper SRT-10 has a 0-60 time of 3.8s (or a tad lower, depending on the source) and 11.5s @ 129.2 mph in the 1/4 mile. The R1200RS has various times as low as 2.9s - 3.1s to 60 mph, with estimated 1/4 mile time of 11.1s.

Basically they are comparable. But I agree with Bruce that the Viper driver likely did not want to drag in an urban (?) area, because of the problems that Cody mentioned. Huge power is useless unless it can be put fully into forward motion.

I once had a play with a 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe (0-60 mph 3.8 / Quarter mile 12.1) through several lights, and as with the Viper it was left behind but probably because he did not want to risk it. These drivers know that their rear ends would likely slide all over the place and make a lot of noise, thereby attracting attention.

Still fun to have a play though. Big Grin

Years ago, while riding my Ducati on one of my favorite routes in VA, a Blue/White stripe Viper GTS pulled out of a gas station ahead of me. Followed that beautiful beast for the next 35 minutes at a perfect "brisk" pace, til he eventually turned into the driveway of (what I assumed) his house. We exchanged beeps and waves as I continued on. Those mile wide quarter panels and steamroller rear tires were so cool!
