Huh. I suppose if anyone knows about risk it's those associated with the time trial. I gusess a really good outbreak could cause more volunteer and spectator deaths in one year than the 151 lives claimed by the Snaefel Mountain course over the last 113 y.

Your comment brings to mind will the race survive now that those who have for years made efforts to shut it down have found a reason. Attending the race is on my list of things to do before checking out of this sport. Oh well, won’t get everything off the list but it is getting shorter.

Also on my list..., since age 14. The problem has always been the choice between more riding time this side of the Atlantic, or taking time for air travel and hassling with rent-a-bikes.

You've met some of the hard core personalities associated with the sport in the UK. Though I've been wrong before, I see a bigger than ever TT for 2022. The shutdown will only come if the best riders and teams refuse to participate and the fans refuse to make the pilgrimage and spend their money.

RE: 2021 Isle of Man TT Cancelled - Olgry1 - 12-02-2020

if it is any consolation Paul and Jazz from Australia went to Isle of Mann three or four years ago. To summarize they had high expectations going in but overall were disappointed.
From what they said once you chose your location to watch the race that was it for the day. That and the fact you actually saw mere seconds of each race of the day.
I will miss the video experience from Isle of Mann this year.

The MotoGP races, while not the same environment as the Isle of Mann, were fun to watch in Indianapolis a few years back.

I can fully understand Paul and Jazz's reaction - I'd probably be the same.

I always though that when I watched IoMTT on YouTube - that the spectators who don't have an overview of the whole race only see blips as the riders go by. There is no appreciation of battles like you see on TV. With MotoGP there is more if a chance that a spectator would see more of the race since they are in the grandstands or on the overlooking hills or whatever. Plus there are large TV screens as well.

Personally I have no interest in the IoMTT. I don't even watch it on YouTube. Much prefer MotoGP or World Superbike, but that is just me. Smile

Indy MotoGP!!!
Man, There could be another thread on just that event by itself. My brother and I made that trip in ‘12 & ‘13. Unbelievable experience seeing (and hearing) riders and bikes of that caliber. Not to mention the campground action, lol.

I think it was 2008 that we went with a friend. Weather was not good but still had a good time. That's the year a bunch of Ducatis blew over.
Bought scalper tickets for next to nothing for Friday and Saturday. Practice, qualifying and a RedBull race. I was surprised how fast they go in the corners in the rain.
It was great because we could walk around the track and watch from different points. Did that more than sitting in the stands. We were also able to walk through the bike garage area.
Sunday was high winds and pouring so we watched the main race on TV at our friend's hose.

Too funny. Somewhere I have a pic of myself with the Ducati girls from that exact same day. We went to the track on Sunday and the weather was insane.

Speaking of Ducati. Here’s a pic (2012) of Jeremy Burgess trying to figure out how in the world to make the Rossi/Ducati combo work, lol[Image: 44ad7680077b436596b9e37c602d5c74.jpg]

I was at the 2008 races and Sunday took off and road home to the Chicago area. That weather was some of, if not the worst weather I ever road through. Spent most of the way home leaned way over to counteract the side wind and rain.

RE: 2021 Isle of Man TT Cancelled - Olgry1 - 12-04-2020

Did any of you ride on the track? I don't recall the details but there were a number of riders who took a few (too slow) laps on the track. I was surprised the track, especially the front straight, was as narrow as it was.

We saw riders taking the “fan laps” both years I attended. Really entertaining seeing people creep through the infield section ( on every type of bike) then pin it on the front straight). Contrast that to the 215mph of the MotoGP bikes, which seemed like they would never slow down enough to make turn one!
