New Tires - mojoguzzi - 03-14-2021 Had Moto Richmond install a pair of Michelin Road 5 GTs. Great service, as always. Had about 6600 miles on the stock tires. Most of our tires get changed early since most of our riding is trips. I've changed tires that looked like the ones in the video. I do because I do both trips and I commute and ride whenever I can while not on a long trip. That was why I bought the tire changer; the theory was so I could put my half-worn tires back on. Still have to master the changer of course, but I do have 3 rear tires in my garage, one with maybe less than 1000 miles on it which I patched (properly from the inside) and which will see use one of these days. I only remember one time that I remounted the old tires. After a few years of not using the old tires I set them out on the curb and someone usually picks them up. Two years ago I had tires shipped to a place we stay in the Texas Hill Country. The guy has a tire changer. One of the guys in our group needed to buy a rear tire for his trip home to Kansas. I told him to run over to Blanco and have our friend mount my old tire. It had plenty of thread for his ride home. This saved him paying list price for a tire at one of the three shops available. He had a new set waiting at home and he miss calculated how long his tires would last. He took my tire which is on the right. Nothing wrong with that, and from the picture your tire looks perfectly serviceable. I plan on throwing out unused tires I have not yet remounted after they reach 5-6 years from date of manufacture. I really have a problem with discarding tires early and filling up the landfills needlessly with tires that still have life in them to at least be worn down to the wear bars. Patched properly from the inside, I am convinced that they are just as good as new. BTW my plug in my S1000R is still doing quite well and not leaking any air. Had it up to about 110 with no issues, but since it is really a temporary repair, I keep an eye on that tire more than normal. Still has about 1500 more miles of tread left on that Pirelli Corsa, and for essentially a commuter bike that is a lot of life. Video here: Hope you saw the shout-out in the credits When I sold the KTM to Moto Richmond, part of the deal was a set of tires when I needed/wanted them. I probably had about 1,000 miles left, but I wanted to get in before the service area got too crazy. Too, I tend to be more conservative about tires. I don't want to be about to do a thousand-mile trip and realize I need tires. But, hey, that's me!
