30k Service - Duccrazydave - 05-28-2021

Just turned 30k (small numbers here, for sure:-). So I’m going to dive into fluid changes and driveshaft inspection.
Bruce is gonna be so proud of me, lol.[Image: 823628b2793a3db766451b071b7c4753.jpg]

Rotella meets the specs and the blue jug looks good with a Lupin bike Smile

RE: 30k Service - Grumpy Goat - 05-28-2021

Has anyone here used the Rotella T6 before and with no difference in performance? Dave?

30k Service - Duccrazydave - 05-28-2021

Yes, Wayne. I know, for sure, Bruce has. I also know a few other people who run Rotella in their motorcycles. Street and off road. If there’s any difference at all, it will typically show up in shifting action.

RE: 30k Service - Lee - 05-28-2021

I've only used it when the faulty low oil light comes on and I had to add a little oil to shut it off.
Since it meets the same specs as the oil bottled for BMW and the Castrol oil I would be surprised if anyone can feel a difference.

30k Service - Duccrazydave - 05-28-2021

I can certainly feel a difference in my wallet, lol.

This is what I was thinking. It is certainly cheaper than the BMW stuff and even the Castrol oil I have been using.

Amazon has the best deal on Castrol. $53 for 6 quarts. As opposed to $15 a quart at Cycle Gear. Apologies for accidentally starting an oil thread [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Yes I get my Castrol from Amazon. Buy it by the box of 6 quarts. Best deal I could find.

Did you see Amazon has the 20% off coupon again?

Sounds good. I will grab a box when I get home.

On to the driveshaft inspection. A little wiggling and the driveshaft came loose from the final drive splines, without disengagement from the output shaft. Everything looks kosher. Just going to clean and lube the splines a bit. [Image: d15d7349d416028052e2fcec8b8c211d.jpg]

RE: 30k Service - Duckbubbles - 05-29-2021

I was going to inspect/clean/lube the driveshaft splines on my RS at my 40K mi. check but I got out of sequence and serviced the rear end with oil before and didn't want to drain and refill. I'll have to remember that next time. I really don't expect to find a horrible situation in there since I don't go wading through rivers like the GS guys. I do have low water crossings in my travels, but seldom more that 2-3 inches of water. Have to watch out for the algae more than anything else.

Way to go Dave. Looks pretty good.

RE: 30k Service - Duckbubbles - 05-30-2021

After reading about the forward end of the driveshaft uncoupling, I was going to keep forward pressure on the driveshaft with a screwdriver or whatever as I rotated the rear end down to prevent uncoupling of the front. Remember that for next time.
