“Around the block” - Duccrazydave - 08-14-2021 Had a day off this week to catch up on some bike maintenance. Installed some new front brake pads (33.5k). While the calipers were off, I used a toothbrush and soapy water to clean the exposed piston surfaces, as well as clean the caliper body. Wear on the old pads was nice and even. Rear pads were still acceptable After installation I figured I would probably putt around for a bit to bed the pads in. Apparently the auto pilot on the RS decided on a longer, familiar loop. Wound up taking 66/89/614 to the BRP, then reversed the order to wind up with 235 miles of proper pad break in activity :-) Used EBC HH pads and could immediately feel the difference. Restored a firm lever feel and greatly improved braking power. The stock pads, while not completely worn, had started to feel a little wooden. The ride itself was great (as it almost always is during hours when most people are at work) and the Dunlop Roadsmart 4’s are still wearing great and giving great traction and feedback! The pic is at the Hanging Rock parking lot, taking a short water break from the 92F temps and high humidity of the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk RE: “Around the block” - Grumpy Goat - 08-14-2021 Very nice. Thanks for the review on the EBC HH pads. I may get a set of these for the Tracer. Brakes are not the same as the S1000R, or even the RS. RE: “Around the block” - azqkr - 08-15-2021 Nice write up on the brake pads and RS4's. I've got 3700 miles on mine [ 3600 in 14 days of riding on recent 5 state tour ]. Rear started at 8/32, now at a hair width below 7/32. Front started at 5/32, now at just below that. Tires were great in the rain, or running 70-75mph for hours at a time, and charging the twisties of the likes of Beartooth Pass, Mt Evans etc RE: “Around the block” - runnerhiker - 08-15-2021 That's a nice "around the block ride". Nice picture too. |
