No ESA On The 2022 RS For Awhile - Lee - 08-25-2021

Last week our salesman at Kansas City called to let us know he received a email from BMW that the 2022 RS and R would not ship with ESA for awhile because the facility that makes the chips or assembles ESA was damaged by a flood in Germany.
The bikes will ship with the standard suspension.
He thought ours made it in under the wire and got ESA but had to wait until this week to be sure.
He called today to tell us the bikes were made this week and it shows they have ESA.

The email said the R1250RT and GSA are not affected.
Not sure about S and F bikes.

If anyone has a bike ordered you might want to check on it's status.

Thanks for passing on the “heads-up”, Lee. I am sure that there may be others in the same boat as you. I can tell you that I wouldn’t want a BMW without Dynamic ESA. The Tracer has “manual” suspension with all the adjustments and that is fine for a bike almost half the price. But if I shell out premium dollars I want all the bells and whistles. Bet you BMW does not drop the price for affected bikes.

This sounds odd to me. They can't be making enough RS bikes to help alleviate a component shortage situation. There must bo other models involved besides the RS.

RS and R models are impacted

I like ESA when you have conventional or upside down forks because it reduces front end dive.
When we were buying the K1300Ss I ordered them without ESA and Shift Assist.
Production on the S was stopped until late spring because there were too many on the ground. We didn't want to miss out on part of the riding season so I had the dealer order a couple loaded bikes from the NJ warehouse.
I found out I like ESA and shift assist.
I didn't think I would want ESA because of the high replacement cost and there was not a aftermarket ESA at the time.
I found out the ESA suspension seemed to last longer than any of the previous BMW suspension we had in the past.

The salesman called yesterday to tell us the bikes were made this week and they have ESA.

I would think they would have to. I don't know what ESA costs on the RS now because the RS only has one option package now.
Eleven years ago ESA was over $1,000.

Here's a couple links Wessie posted on the RS forum.

I hope we don't have any shipping delays like some have seen and we get the bikes before winter.

In 2011 it was January before we got the bikes because we were waiting for the S to resume production.
We bought those bikes in Iowa City 180 miles away.
The dealer felt bad for the long delay and she offered to deliver the bikes for $100.
They normally did not deliver or pick up bikes. I thought about it for half a second and said yes.

The shop owner had a open trailer but used a employee's enclosed trailer so the bikes would not get salted up.

Debbie looks cold. [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES] That was nice of the dealer to offer to deliver the bikes in winter. Likely that the payment would be finalized on delivery was added incentive, especially needed in slower months.

Yes it is likely higher than that, but if there is any reduction I would bet it would not exceed $500. [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

We didn't discuss the different options if the bikes were delivered without ESA.
Figured it best to wait until this week to find out if the bikes had ESA or not.
He did say the shop was committed to the bikes but we did not have to buy them.

I'm curious about the bikes made in the next couple months if they ship with electronics to make it possible to add the ESA suspension latter.
Another time the salesman had told me they were able to add the TPM system to the RTs they received without TPM.
The shop ate that cost.
