Hand Guards - maxredline - 03-05-2022

I found these bike specific hand guards on Ebay. I am going to give them a go.
Too be clear I do not expect much efficiency.

Do the BMW handlebar female brackets used for mirrors on many models come in the kit or do you source those from BMW?

It would be nice if I could see them closer - got a link? The Tracer comes with hand guards and while they were better than nothing, the protection only came into its own when I added the Givi extensions (video on my YT channel). The stock Tracer handguards appear to offer slightly more coverage than these ones so YMMV.

In most cases I like having my hands in the breeze and will remove stock handguards for day to day riding. I will install the guards for a longer tour particularly if there is a high likelihood of rain which is almost a given around here.
By the looks of these Ebay items I really don't have too high of expectations on efficiency but we shall see.

The only link I have

Thanks. That works. I think that they may be too small for colder weather. Not sure about wet weather as I let my wet weather gear take care of that.

At $39 for the pair certainly not a big expense. Would make me wonder if the hand guards at that price are BMW OEM guards or someone producing something similar. Will be interesting to get your feedback.

RE: Hand Guards - MrVvrroomm - 03-05-2022

I had this basic setup on my '16 RS. It's GS-specific oem handguards adapted to RS. They were installed by original owner.

RE: Hand Guards - runnerhiker - 03-06-2022

My S1000XR has OEM hand guards that look like these, their effect on wind on the hands is minimal, it's like they are summertime hand guards.

I think BMW has done an excellent job of designing the RS in the wind tunnel, I get less wind/rain on my RS w/o hand guards than on the XR with hand guards.

Okay the guards are on, bike not on the road yet.
Build quality is what you might expect for the money but I don't see them as garbage. I have had Ducati faring stays crack on a tip over so time will tell.
I put some removable loctite on everything but the bar ends.
The fastening point at the top of the bar bracket did nothing but act as a locater pin. Yes the one with the big stainless cap screw.
No washers came with this. What I did was make a rubber washer for the bottom of the guard arm and installed my own SS washer at the cap
screw to make it secure.
