A friend of mine had his S1000RR sit on the boat 7 or 8 weeks before it was unloaded.
He also had several months of production delays because of the brake recall.
Had it for 300 or 400 mile when a deer ran into him.
His new one should arrive in NY today.

Has to have been the same guy, wouldn't you guess? Or maybe he didn't venture to KC for the transaction?

No matter, after all that, he deserves a fresh start! Yikes.

He lives and bought his bike in Illinois.
He uses the Urbana dealer.

I checked with my friend this morning to see if his bike arrived in NY and he said he was afraid to check Big Grin

Don't blame him for not wanting to jinx things! Here's to better luck this time around for him!

It's a stock photo so I can't see if it has gold or silver forks.

Stopped by Engle today and the 1250R above wasn't on the floor, and was enroute when it was posted to their webite, and, as of today, still in the crate downstairs. She checked, however, and no D-ESA. But, it wasn't a build job, just a bike for the floor. Peter wasn't there, so we really don't know if he spec'd it and was stiffed in this case as well, so there's more to it (if it matters).

I now have a "Chassis Number" for RS #2, which also seems to be its VIN, but it's in the earliest of production stages, so no way of knowing what's going on with D-ESA. I also received the factory build sheet, which shows it, as well as the Premium package, which the previous version did not. It's my first rodeo in these parts, so I don't know how to interpret the paperwork, but we'll know for sure in a couple of weeks.

RE: 2022 Officially "On Order"! - ESquared - 01-19-2022

2nd Time is a Charm!

According to Peter at Engle, my RS was built as scheduled yesterday, as ordered, with D-ESA included with all the other bells and whistles. I'll swing by the shop this weekend and get a new printout, just so I can see it with my own eyes!

The other thing I'll be interested to see is whether they have truly replaced the chrome can with a brushed "titanium" version, as the website Configurator calls out the chrome finish as part of the Premium Package, which also picks up D-ESA. A communique from BMW last fall led the shop to believe that the chrome was disappearing altogether. Was looking forward to that.

Anyway, the wait continues, but I'm hopeful that we may have a Container # by this weekend (and maybe a Boat!).

RE: 2022 Officially "On Order"! - Lee - 01-20-2022

That's good news.
I thought about the brushed finish muffler also but like you mentioned the configuator does not let you delete the chrome option from the Premium package.

Yes, I took the news (now suspect) that the chrome was being replaced by a "titanium" finish to be a very good thing, so now I guess it's back to square one on this particular aspect of the bike.

Not looking for louder (at all), especially at highway speeds, but will live with the chrome for a while and see if it grows on me. Lots of options in the aftermarket world, so will continue to research and mull it over.

What could you possibly be doing to keep your mind off the arrival of your new baby?
Other bikes maybe? Wink

Nah, not other bikes, but plenty of time-sucking activities related to this one, such as:
1. Tail-bag options, other than the small BMW one that I picked up "Open Box" from Revzilla. The "Small Bag 3" seems very large, but ...
2. Tank-bags, other than the SW Motech Micro Pro (which seems pretty small). The "City" bag seems huge as well, but has the easy access outside pockets...
3. Is it worth considering the extended warranty coverage and/or the "Service Plans"?
4. And what about that chrome can?

And a handful of other topics worth mulling, all of which lead to Google searches, reviews, YT Videos, cross-references between Forums, Classfied searches, you get the idea.

"Idle hands are the Devil's workshop" has never been more true!

You have three years or 36,000 miles before you need to decide.

But I always thought the play was that the extended coverage you buy/pay for today will cost you less than if you decide to wait until the current warranty is about to expire. Not true?

It's not cheaper if you buy the warranty at time of bike purchase.
With third party warranties you could get a discount if the dealer was willing.
I don't know if dealers can discount the BMW extended coverage.

When Becky gave me the warranty info I said I would probably wait until the regular warranty was up. She didn't try to push it by saying they could give me a discount if I bought it with the bike.
I asked if there was any advantage with buying the warranty with the bike and she said no.

Good to know, thanks. Becky and I had a quick phone conversation on it, so I'll dig deeper when I visit the shop on Saturday.

With the kind of miles you guys ride, it seems like you'd be ideal candidates for one of the prepaid Service Plans they offer as well. Good or bad deal? (I get my first service as part of the deal).

RE: 2022 Officially "On Order"! - Grumpy Goat - 01-21-2022

Thanks for clearing that up, Lee. I did not know that.

I did not buy the extended warranty for my RS, at the time of purchase or otherwise. I am more inclined to the side of ... I'll do my own repairs when stuff breaks and if too complicated will pay to have it done, and if too expensive will get rid of the bike. So far so good (knock on wood).

The extended warranty from BMW was not available in the US until sometime in 2021.

The only extended warranty I've purchased was on our first computer so I'm way ahead on that game Smile
BUT, I'm going to consider this warranty from BMW before the regular warranty runs out.

Swung by Engle and chatted with the whole crew. RS is still "in transit" within their factory walls, so no Container number, so no Boat # or Est Date of Departure/Arrival in NYC. Probably will know better next week.

Confirmed (we think) that BMW has indeed NOT eliminated the Chrome Can, as it's still what prints out as part of the Premium Pkg. Good to see Item 192 (D-ESA) lined out on the spec sheet, though!

Went through the extended warranty conversation again with Becky, and she did confirm that BMW reserves the right to increase pricing on this add-on, just like they can adjust pricing on anything they sell. Since this plan is new as of 5/21, there's no history to track, but there is, in fact, no guarantee that today's price for the extra four years of coverage will be the same three years from your date of purchase. Will have to noodle that one, as well as the "Service Plan" options they offer through Rider's Choice (I think); they don't sell the BMW service plans, which I thought was interesting. The explanation was their long history and good experience with Rider's Choice = no need to add another provider (even if it is BMW).

Anyway, managed to get out without spending any money, but have my eye on the new "Black Series" rear soft bag (smaller of the two they offer), which is nowhere near as big as the old Soft Bag 3. No more luggage for now, though!

That's how I understand it. No planned price increase but it's possible the price will be higher in 2 years or 3 years.

We'll drive down sometime this winter. After waiting 6 months, my 400,000 mile award finally came in. They want me to come down instead of mailing it so they can take a picture.
In the past we have not picked up our other awards in person.
