My 2012 GS could do 18's and sometimes I'd get to 17's on a good day. 18's were fairly easy.

I use acf-50 on the matte black parts of my Shad panniers. Apply liberally, lightly wipe excess off. I need to apply it maybe 3-4 times a year. Brings the matte finish back to looking new.
