Sluggish acceleration above 5000 RPM

The mechanic showed me the old shaft.  Both splines were rusted to the mating splines and required some effort to separate (according to the mechanic).  As for the universal joints, one side was noticeably less flexible than the other.

Relative to effect on ride, the bike is smoother rolling on and off throttle.  In 5th and 6th gear, there's less vibration.  I'm still experiencing vibration around 4000 RPM in 3rd and 4th.
I knocked, but the door was open.......
