The new 2019 BMW R1250RS
#1
Feast your eyes ...

The new BMW R 1250 R, the new BMW R 1250 RS and the new BMW R 1250 GS Adventure.
06.11.2018 Press Kit

For decades, the boxer engine in the BMW Motorrad R, RS and
GS Adventure models has stood for distinctive, powerful and reliable propulsion when it comes to dynamic riding along country roads, sporty touring or enjoying long-distance trips and motorcycling adventures to the full. For more than 25 years, BMW Motorrad has used 4-valve technology in this connection, combined with electronic fuel injection and closed-loop catalytic converter technology in order to achieve the best possible power and torque delivery, efficiency and environmental compatibility.

Further advanced boxer engine with BMW ShiftCam Technology for an additional increase in power across the entire engine speed range, reduced emission and fuel consumption levels, optimised running smoothness and refinement.
With the extensively further advanced boxer engine, the new R 1250 R, R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure not only achieve a whole new level of power and torque. It was also possible to significantly optimise refinement and running smoothness – especially within the lower engine speed range. What is more, the new engine offers improved emission and fuel consumption levels as well as a particularly satisfying sound. For this purpose, BMW ShiftCam Technology has been used for the first time in the serial production of BMW Motorrad engines: this enables variation of the valve timings and valve stroke on the intake side. In addition, the intake camshafts are designed for asynchronous opening of the two intake valves, resulting in enhanced swirl of the fresh, incoming mixture and therefore more effective combustion. Other technical changes to the engine relate to the camshaft drive – now taken care of by a toothed chain (previously a roller chain) – an optimised oil supply, twin-jet injection valves and a new exhaust system.

Two riding modes, ASC and Hill Start Control as standard.
There are two riding modes available as standard in order to be able to adapt the motorcycle to individual rider preferences. The standard Automatic Stability Control ASC ensures a high level of riding safety due to the best possible traction. The set-off assistant Hill Start Control is likewise a standard feature in all three models, enabling convenient set-off on slopes.

Riding Modes Pro, featuring additional riding modes, Dynamic Traction Control DTC, ABS Pro, Hill Start Control Pro and Dynamic Brake Assistant DBC, available as an optional equipment ex works.
"Riding Modes Pro" is now available as an optional equipment item, featuring the additional riding mode "Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” (configurable), Dynamic Traction Control DTC, and in the R 1250 GS Adventurre also the riding modes "Enduro" and "Enduro Pro” (configurable). DTC enables even more efficient and safe acceleration, especially when banking. ABS Pro offers even greater safety when braking, even in banking position. The new Dynamic Brake Control DBC provides additional safety when braking, also in difficult situations, by avoiding unintentional accelerator activation. By means of intervention in the engine control, drive torque is reduced during braking so as to make full use of the braking power at the rear wheel. This keeps the motorcycle stable and shortens the braking distance.

LED headlamp for the R 1250 RS and R 1250 GS Adventure as standard and LED daytime riding light for all three models as an ex works optional equipment item.
The new R 1250 RS and R 1250 GS Adventure now feature a LED headlamp as standard. In addition to this, the LED daytime riding light is available as an optional equipment item for the R 1250 RS and the R 1250 GS Adventure as well as for the R 1250 R, which has halogen headlamps.

Electronic suspension Dynamic ESA “Next Generation” with fully automatic load compensation as an option.
With the optional equipment item BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA “Next Generation”, damping automatically adapts to the situation according to riding state and manoeuvres, and there is also automatic compensation in all load states. This allows finely tuned adaptation of the motorcycle to riding states, achieving optimum damping comfort and a very stable ride response.

Connectivity: Multifunctional instrument cluster with 6.5 inch full-colour TFT display offering many features as standard.
The three new boxer models now have the equipment feature Connectivity as standard including a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen. In conjunction with the standard BMW Motorrad Multi-Controller, this means the rider can access vehicle and connectivity functions particularly swiftly and conveniently.

Intelligent Emergency Call as an ex works option.
Ensuring the fastest possible assistance in the event of an accident or in situations of emergency and danger can save people’s lives. The optional equipment item Intelligent Emergency Call summons assistance to the scene as quickly as possible.
As before, this feature can be ordered for all three models.

BMW Motorrad Spezial – high-quality customisation features as optional equipment items ex works.
BMW Motorrad Spezial is range of iconic customisation features that enhance both performance and value, available as optional equipment items ex works. The focus is on harmonious integration in the vehicle as a whole, use of the very highest-quality materials, elaborate manual workmanship and characteristic attention to detail.

The billet packs Option 719 Classic and HP are available for the new boxer models, for example.

The new R 1250 R and R 1250 RS can also be equipped with the Option 719 Classic or Sport Wheels as well as the exclusive paintwork and the Option 719 seat.

An HP sports silencer is likewise available ex works for all three new boxer models.

New attractive colours and style variants.
The new boxer models feature one basic finish each as well as two striking style variants. The Option 718 Special Paint Finish is also available for the new R 1250 R and R 1240 RS.

The highlights of the new BMW R 1250 R, BMW R 1250 RS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure:

If you're serious that is not good, but the LOL suggests that you are kidding.

[UPDATE] I created a separate thread for this.

The 2019 is a nice bike no doubt. Not sure if I will trade my 2016 though. Will have to read the reviews when they come out and do a review myself. It would have to be dramatically improved for me to change, I think.

Saw this yesterday --

Finally, the BMW R 1250 RS is the one that will later reach the BMW Motorrad network, specifically, from September 13 and will do so with a recommended price of € 15,650. [https://motos.coches.net/noticias/bmw-s1...5-Apr-2019]

That means it will likely reach us here in the US even later ... Undecided

My local dealer is showing a couple of 2020 R1250RS in stock. I stopped by, didn't see them. Didn't ask, was in a hurry. They did have 2020 R1250R's at both local dealers.

I'm in Minnesota.

Last night I got a call from one of the dealers north of Houston to say that they do have two 1250R bikes on the floor but no RS models yet. He could not comment on on when the RS might show up but speculated that it may be soon, since the 1250R was there.

Follow-up: This evening I got a call from the dealership again to say that they have 2 R1250RSs - a black and the "mustard" coloured one. Smile

Problem is, I am stuck here in Europe till Saturday, so I won't get back to Houston in time to go for a test ride till next week. Sad

I’ve not had a chance to ride one yet either but did get a good look at 2 different blue models and a yellow one. Maybe Tuesday afternoon for a test ride. I do know the LED rim lights do come on when the bike is turned on and when the engine is started at least with the low beam headlight. Did not check if they stayed on the with the high beam headlight but guessing they do. There are two different styles of engine spoilers on the blue and yellow bike models. Other then the value covers on the models, headlights, exhaust pipe curve shortened, white frame on the yellow bike and dark gray frame on the blue bike I did not see anything different physically from the R1200RS. I liked the yellow bike except for the white frame. Blue bike is pretty non descript from my point of view.

At least we finally get LED DRLs on this side of the pond ...

I like the engine spoilers but, if one were to fit crash bars, I would bet they'd have to go ... Undecided

Maybe if I have the mustard bike 2 ft away I might like the colour better but so far that does nothing for me. Dodgy I do prefer the dark blue, but that should not be surprising ... I like the grey bike I have. Big Grin

When the 2016 RS came out, I thought the gray one looked best on the web pictures. When I saw them in real life, I thought the blue one looked better and that's what I got. I think the new black one looks best on the web pictures, but in real life, I might have a different opinion. I am not itching to get one, for now, I'll keep my 2016.

So if you look at my history of car colours my bike colour choices makes sense. Big Grin I have a history of buying black or dark coloured cars despite black (and to a slightly lesser extent, red) being the hardest colours to maintain. But boy, when clean and in the right light, nothing looks better.

Same with the Granite Grey (and Mike's Black) colour scheme. Smile But to each his own, right? To be honest, before I saw the Granite Grey I admired the Lupin Blue too.

I DO know that I would take a Lupin Blue over many of these new colours, especially the mustard. Big Grin

Quite true, but the greatest danger for me is if a late model Aprilia Tuono were to present itself with a really attractive price and low mileage. A slight upgrade to my bike would not likely crack open my wallet. Smile

That's good news.
I thought I saw a post from a US member that mentioned the DRL did not work on the US R1250RS.
Our R1200RS low beam is very dim in the daylight and needs extra help from additional lights.

I remember that same post so asked my sales person if he would activate the ignition and start the bike. Hopefully tomorrow I find time to get out and ride a demo and then can double check.

Had a chance to ride the blue colored one which is called the Exclusive. Yellow color was also on the floor and is called the Sport. Difference other than color appears to be stainless steel spoiler and 719 special rims on the yellow one. Otherwise looked the same and dealer said were the same.

If I wanted, needed or had to have a particular colored offered I'd buy one. But other than a few more horses I did not find any difference riding my 2016 vs the 2020 on the same 25 mile route today. To me new bikes always feel better with the new suspension components, new tires, everything feels a bit tighter, and the excitement of something new just makes me feel good.

I could not feel the shift cam change, did not find the shifting up or down any smoother using the gear shift assist, and even found my aging suspension not a lot different than the new bike. I set the ride modes and suspension the same on both the aging and new bike.

The TFT screen did absolutely nothing for me but then I did not play around with it a lot. I never use the tach to shift and the main screen appears to feature the tach more than anything else it displays. Maybe some experience with it and it would be an absolute can't live without.

So at least for the next 6 months I have no plans to add a R1250RS to the garage.

Darrell did you look to see if the DRL strips stayed on with the low beam?
