Starting today (5 minutes ago) any new sign-ups will be required to put their location before the sign-up is complete. This requirement is not retroactive.
Knowing where everyone is from is nice to know especially when it cannot be inferred from the post. Sometimes that is all that is needed to make the posts make sense.
State / Province / whatever and Country is suggested. Country alone is fine. You can add City if you like, but actual street address is totally unnecessary.
Existing users - Please consider taking a moment to visit your profiles and update your location.

I like that requirement, wish all sites did this.
Does the site software make it possible to display the location next to the Avatar or user name?

I have my location in my signature.
I checked my profile to make sure it was listed there also and see I did not fill it in.
When I go to User CP and Profile, I can view my Profile but can't edit it.
Edit: I was able to edit my Profile

Not out of the box but I believe there are setting changes in the code that make this possible. There is also a plugin that may make display of a flag possible too. I will be looking into these options a bit more this weekend (I hope) and will at least report back on this.

My location, southwest of Chicago, finally shows up in my profile now. While I may know my way through Deals Gap like the back of my hand when it comes to computers I still have train wheels on

Heheh .... we are have our strengths and I am probably the opposite to you when it comes to computers and motorcycles, but we try our best. Problem is I have forgotten more about computers than I know about bikes so where does that leave me ...
