Marias Pass is in the Books

Stopped in Choteau, MT for the night.

53 this morning when I left the motel at 0615 to get up to Glacier Nat’l Park before the crowds and reached 68 this afternoon so perfect riding temps for me. Humidity in the 40’s so low dew points. Can stay bundled up all day. Probably ran across 400 motorcycles traveling in this area today alone. Solo BMW riders and groups as big as 12 on Harley’s, Gold Wings and Indians. Very few sport bikes as nearly all the riders are from out of state traveling. Many from Canada. Never saw another RS.

Logan Pass - The Attempt Has Begun - Pass 1 of an Estimated 66 Crossings

After 1200 miles I was finally able to start my attempt to ride all the paved road passes that cross the Continental Divide from the Canadian to the Mexico border. I was able to ride the Going to the Sun road with Logan Pass in the morning before it got too busy. Glacier Nat’l Park is beautiful on a nice day. Temps this morning in the low 50’s and it warmed up to the high 60’s later in the day. Perfect temps for me.

If I wanted to be a real tourist I’d stop my motorcycle in the middle of the highway. Get my camera out and point at some mountain and holler I saw a mountain goat on the ridge nearly a mile away. And 20 other cars would stop and get out with their cameras and start taking pictures. Crazy what people do with no regard for others traveling.

While at the visitors center on Logan Pass a young boy told his father he had not seen a bear yet. His father replied, “I told you son we should have gone to the zoo as there are not many bears out here.”

The Continental Divide Crossed 7 Times Today

Rogers Pass
Flesher Pass
MacDonald Pass
Elk Park Pass
Homestake Pass
Pipestone Pass
Deer Lodge Pass

A later start (1100) as wanted to let the rain pass before getting on the road. Still ended up with a 300 mile day. Several of the passes had no name at the pass just the altitude marker or a sign with information on the pass.

In Anaconda, MT tonight. An old mining town.
