Just came across this:

Achilles: BMW’s Radical R 1250 RS Sprintbike
Take a sports tourer, put aside all the unnecessary parts, slam it down, add NOS and this is what you get!

BMW Motorrad is known to be a forward-thinking company which has more often than not strayed away from the conventional design process and envisioned some of the most remarkable working concepts out there. One such bike is the ‘Achilles’ - a full-blown sprintbike that has been designed and built to represent BMW's sporty brand identity at the Sultans of Sprint competition. Interestingly, the rules of the event state that the bikes are judged not just on their performance, but the contenders creativity and craziness too!

Yep. Spoked wheels and shaft drive in a sprint bike? Not just smiling, but laughing.

It’s not just a sprint bike but a sprint RS so the shaft drive is authentic, I think, even if less mechanically efficient. I wonder what would be its competition. ?😀

If he was still alive, Elmer Trett would have probably liked the Achilles as his daily ride. Wink

What is the structure at the right rear of the bike that looks like a swingarm brace?
How would the back part attach to anything?

Found my answer, it's the footpeg bracket.

With a person on the bike it now becomes so clear how low it is ...

I don't think I've ever seen the term "sprint bike" before. Is that the same as a drag bike? This bike looks like a drag bike.
It seems a bit funny that in the picture Lee posted, the rider is wearing full leathers, full-face helmet, boots, but no gloves.

I'm also not familiar with the term Sprint bike.
Looks like a drag bike to me.

This is her latest bike. Elyse said it had a street tire mounted because they were doing some dyno test.

Maybe "sprint" racing (UK / European term) is similar to "drag" racing .... check this web page out and this one, which sort of describes it a bit. Of course there are no vintage classes over this side of the pond, as far as I know ...

Well, you need to think like a racer or like the AMA.
"The AMA, chartered clubs and volunteers continue to develop a framework for grassroots-level motorcycle drag racing opportunities, with a place for everything from modern sportbikes to vintage machinery."

Lee's right. Local rules aside, sprint=drag.

Here's a link to the rules used at Piedmont Dragway in Julian, NC:

No - I'm in St. Louis, but on tour, it's on my list of places to eventually try to connect with on a race day. Julian just seems like a great place to get one's fix of smells and sounds of hard working racers - who speak with that accent that has come to define grass roots motorsports in the US....
