Reminds me of that consumer ed project in high school where we compared the price of a new motorcycle already assembled with that of a motorcycle assembled from parts.

That said good news that they examined the driveshaft. What made them do that? Do they consider that routine maintenance past 60000 miles? I don't recall driveshaft inspection on the list of things to do at major service.

Thanks
When we replaced the driveshafts on our 1991 K75Ss I think they were around $200.
Not surprised at the $1,200 price.

At 144,000 miles I'm guessing the Tech thought it would be a good idea to look at the driveshaft and U joints.

I planned to have both of ours checked before trading late fall.

A little less than $1200,00 I do get a small discount at my shop,
plus they let me make the coffee on Sat. Yay!. Part of the safety
inspection the tech rotates the rear wheel to listen for noise and feel any binding.
I had a service before I went to the MOA rally, so this condition had happen in the last 6000 mi.
Back when Darrell had his problem I had my dealer inspect my Driveshaft, at that
time they explain there rotation of the rear wheel process and where confident that
my driveshaft was fine. So I had then pull the driveshaft to prove me wrong, they would not let me make coffee for a month.

Wow, what a thread!
Beemer Bone Yard is selling Endualast 477 lube for spline application in a tube that won't break the bank.
I will be lubing the final drive over the winter and will be using the resources here no doubt. Thanks for all the post!

For those who have used the silicon sealer on the boot, how it is to remove on the next drive line service? Does the boot get wrecked or does it clean up?

After some searching online here in the great white north I ended up buying Loctite No. 50148 moly paste. 8 OZ for $80 cad or $59 usd. I don't think I will ever run out. Up here I could not find it cheaper. It can be almost impossible to find a US site that ship some lubrication products.

Interesting video from Shawn Smoak on trying to get the shaft out of a GS using the special $800 BMW tool used for stubborn extractions. The amount of rust was very surprising, and he said that it there was a bunch of water that came out in the process. The bike was sitting in the back of the shop prior to him working on it. Wow. I feel very good about mine.  Big Grin
