gas tank cap
#1
Today I stopped to get gas and the gas cap opened normally ( I have the keyless ignition )but now it will not lock. The lid closes like always but it will not lock, so the cap is not really closed. Has anyone had this happen ?

Just to be clear, you hear the cap click and it's latched, but you can open it without the fob being within range?

If the cap does not latch the pin may be stuck in the open position.

No I realized I didn't make that very clear. The cap will go all the way down, you can see the pin go into the slot, but when you take your hand off the cap it pops up again.

My wife's gas cap can be fussy at times. I need a little extra down pressure to make sure it catches. I lift the tab on both of our bikes when closing the cap.

Maybe it's possible to adjust the pin.

That has also happened with mine less than a handful of times in the 5 years I owned the bike. In all cases IIRC, I pulled the tab outa bit more using the tip of a key and it worked. Wouldn't hurt to put a drop of oil on that pin to make it slide better. Also, I think that once time I cycled the bike ON and then back OFF and it worked.

And yes, I still like keyless ignition. No chance to leave the key on the bike as I did a couple of times with the S1000R.

My '17 has done this once. A little WD40 and recycling the bike on cleared it up.

I got it closed properly. The little tab in front of the slot ( I think the pin that tells the canbus that the lid is closed is in there ) was pushed too far forward . I pulled it back ( the sensor pin popped up ) and the lid closed and locked. Thanks for the suggestions.
