Kawi Mods
#1
Working on my brother’s recently acquired ‘08 ZX14. He’s asked me to check everything out, install new tires and brakes and add a few new features. Heated grips, USB port, heated gear leads, lighting, etc.
He went with Oxford grips (official Dirty Hipster recommendation :-)
and a Fuzeblock FZ-1 for power distribution. The grip installation went smoothly and the control panel is nice. The grip lead wires were a little long, considering they’re for a sport bike, but managed to keep it tidy. The FZ-1 is super compact and very nice. With 6 outputs and a relay, you have a choice of ignition switched or constant power just by changing the fuse position.
This bike is stupid fast without even trying. But it’s also smooth. Can’t wait to give it an extended ride once I finish working on it. [Image: 8edc8713b268a26c6a60274aa6e4ca3b.jpg]

Nice job Dave. Looks like a nice clean bike too. I love how there is lots of good labelling on things like the fuse box, ECU etc. BMW could learn from that, I think. The Fuzeblock FZ-1 is a nice addition too.

Nice looking ZX1400. I like the subtle silver color.

A turbo would be nice if I was 20 years youngerBig Grin

I rode a Hayabusa with a turbo on the interstate one time. Rolled on the throttle in 6th gear and it pulled good and then I realized the faster it went the harder and harder the bike pulled Big Grin. Shut it down at 140.
My friend let me ride it. He rides a Harley now Huh

Bikes like this (‘busa & ZX) make me giggle. They literally could get by with a tranny with only 3rd gear.

This is my '09 ZX14, of course, I don't have it anymore. The best engine of any bike I've ever owned, a close second was my '04 K1200 RS.

Nice, Ron. This is the first ZX14 I’ve ridden (or worked on). I prefer the riding position and engine characteristics over the Suzuki.
But when it comes to maintenance, it does take slightly longer (ha ha) to get to the engine than our RS.

The shorter cans and rim tape definitely help. Had Kawi green rim tape on my brother’s ZRX1100.
His 14 has Voodoo pipes, which are surprisingly not as loud as they look. [Image: d6ddc395dd68ecde33e82fcd03df84fb.jpg]
