Another Back In The Day From Bob Ain't Stoppin'
#21
Thanks for the Alaska trip picture.
If we ever get back to Glacier I would like to do one of the old red bus tours.
It would make it easier to see more. Probably not cheap.
The last time we were there when we were near the top the smoke was so thick we could only see the road. They closed the road behind us.

It was better down low but not great.

Lee, Where did you take the pipeline pick you posted? Near Valdez?

That accident pic was interesting. We crossed back into the stateds in Idaho (Porthill I think). Riding south we came to either route 95 or route 2 which had just been oiled and was really slippery. Roy was following a ford Ranger that pulled over to the side in the gravel. Then promptly started a U-turn right in front of him. He ran into the rear fender. Who knew that a Ranger had fiberglass fenders? Prolly saved his bacon, but the bike was a total. We were 300 miles from the end of the ride (Polson). Roy called his friend and they came and picked us up with the trailer. Lady in the pick up said she was turning to catch a yard sale. No signal (they didn't work). We were on a reservation and Roy ended up with a ticket cause the lady was a local.

Wow.
They knew he would not return to fight the ticket.

We were leaving Valdez in that picture.
There was a narrow gate we squeezed through to get the picture.
Not long after a helicopter flew over a security truck showed up to check on us.
He was friendly and enjoyed telling us about the guns he got to carry Smile
He mentioned the guys in the helicopter were also armed.

Here's another spot a couple days earlier on the way to Naldez.

We did a Glacier tour while we were at Valdez.
Valdez to Whittier and back.
Back then if you wanted to ride to Whittier you had to put the bikes on a train.
We didn't do that.

I love the RD's. I had a 1971 R5 350, it was my second motorcycle. The color was a little bit more orange than it looks in this picture.

            Hi
No travel pictures as back in 1958 most bikes were used for daily travel.
But I did a bit of road biking with a Triumph Tiger 70 then a BSA Gold Flash.
Converted it to a scambler then put a Tiger 100 engine in to make a TriBsa! Raced for 4 years but could not compete with the new Greeves and Bultaco 2 strokes. Or the real original Metise ridden by the Rickman brothers.

Brilliant, Alan. My mum is from Oxford. One of my uncles (who also raced speedway bikes) used to have a BSA. Mum was convinced (as a passenger) it stood for Bloody Sore Ass! Big Grin
