Nickle and dimin'

Another day ride--nickle-and-dime ride, which is routes 5 out of Richmond east to jamestown, then across the river on the ferry, and back on route 10. Plus there's BBQ.

Hope you enjoy!

When you got off the ferry that was a very long line of cars waiting to board.

It generally is--you hope to be in the front. For us, we were first on...but last off the ferry!

We usually get motioned to the front if the workers can see us or they would squeeze us in the back.
Several years ago we took a Ferry from Kingston Ontario to Wolfe Island then another ferry to Cape Vincent NY.
When we got off the ferry on Wolfe Island we passed a line of cars getting off the island a couple miles long.
On the ferry to Cape Vincent I visited with a girl on a motorcycle who was local and used the ferry a lot.
I asked when she came up to a line too long for a ferry worker to see her if she rode to the front. She said she used to but now people get all pissy when she does it.
If there's a long line she would take the long way and cross the St Lawrence on a bridge further north.

Lots of people are dumb like that. As if the motorcycle will rob them of a space on the ferry. I can see another analogy but since it is political I won't mention it.

There's getting to be a lot more Me First people out there.
Like you mention we usually take a space too small for a car.
Here's the two ferries I mentioned. No way a car could have parked in our spots.

About a year and a half ago, while riding in Missouri/Arkansas, we were crossing Bull Shoals Lake on Mo./Ark. 125. We boarded the ferry first and were set to get off first. A car was parked beside us. After docking they were so intent on getting off first that they ran into the cable guard before the boatman could lower it and had to back up. They succeeded in getting off first and we passed them about a mile down the road. Didn't under stand that then and still don't.

Shame that folks can't see the illogic of their Me-First-itis.

Here's a lovely ferry crossing over the Ohio at Sistersville, WV:

(I love that you can rent the ferry!)
