"Speedometer accuracy is very dependent on tire diameter, which is affected significantly on a motorcycle by pressure, load, and temperature."

Smile

Yeah I see this whenever this topic comes up, and while it is clearly true (it is geometry after all) it does not diminish the fact that there are other vehicles / bikes that manage to tell speed accurately. The same rules apply to all, and some bikes seem to not be able to do this as well as others. In my RS's case the tires are stock and kept at the [bike] manufacturer's specified pressures at all times, and the deltas don't appreciably change as the tires warm up.

About 100 years ago, I was on a long trip with lots of Interstate to be bored with. I started using mile markers to check odometer accuracy in my boredom. Start of trip to late in the trip I measured about 3% increase in distance gain with a worn tire compared to the new one I started with. YMMV. Just throwing that out there. How's your OCD?

Funnily enough, decreasing with age as it sometimes wastes too much time. On the other hand the tolerance for nonsense I don’t like is also decreasing. Rapidly. Big Grin Maybe getting more grumpy.

I also did that before but started losing track of the markers and gave up. Every time. Undecided

Yep, that's pretty much what they've been saying on the RS site.
Still think it's a dumb law.
Not sure about the ECU reflash.
If your bike is out of warranty and there's a trusted tuner in your area a guy could ask.

As i remember, I would start at a "10" or "20' and so forth to help me keep it straight- like the road! Did that for 10 miles at a time to keep the math in my head easier.

I did the same thing before GPS. Start with a mile marker of a even 10 and time it for 10 miles.

Day before yesterday in Texas we were on some open two lane roads where I could use the cruise . Setting the cruise at 82 mph the GPS would show 80.

Sure is nice having 70 and 75 mph speed limits on two lane roads.
