Question for anyone with the OEM shop manual
#1
I've decided that I'll be doing my own servicing from now on. I'm fully capable and have everything I need. The next service is a major. I've seen a schedule that includes torquing the head as a part of the procedure.

Now I know that torquing from fresh is 3 stages of torque followed by an angle of turn. I'm wondering how the maintenance torquing is done?

Can anyone with the BMW manual enlighten me?

My BMW shop manual and checklist for the 12,000 mile service does not show torquing the head.

That link does not work. Can it be that you intended to link to the Maintenance intervals / Service for BMW R1200RS LC (2015-)?

I show the Maintenance Schedule on the RSWb main website, and for no service up to 60k miles is torquing the heads indicated. The Standard Scope service also does not include this. I would think that without it being stated on the User Manual, the shop manual should not require it unless it is a free service. That would be a sure way to pi*s off a whole bunch of people.

When my RH cylinder head was replaced after my 2016 accident (at 12k miles) I was advised to check the head torque after 1200 miles (I believe) and the shop claimed it was fine. I would think that there is no need to check it if there was no disruption from the factory installation.

If I remember correctly, I had to torque the heads before each valve adjustment on my 1984 R100RT Airhead.
A lot of fasteners would get loose on that bike.
I never checked the torque of the heads on any of our K bikes.

I think that the maintenance schedule linked in from the Hornig site is a bit 'generic' and out of date. Many thanks.
