Just saw
this on Top Class Actions website, about a proposed class action lawsuit against BMW Motorrad USA for faulty gear indicators on multiple model series. The plaintiff has a 2016 F700GS BMW and started experiencing issues a year after purchase (no mention of mileage).
Anyone have the wrong gear indicated on their RS?
Anyone know of anyone who had this happen on any other BMW model? The suit alleges this affects 2003-2019 F, K, G, R, HP2, and S series BMW motorcycles.
Never heard of this before.

Never heard of it either. Reading the info of the suit, it seemed to me that there is little basis for the concept that it's dangerous to the operator in any way. I like having a gear indicator (who wouldn't), but it's not something that is required to properly operate the motorcycle. Looks like a classic case of frivolous lawsuit.

I had it happen on both my R1150GS Adventures. As Lee said just replaced the module at the back of the transmission with a new one. Had the dealer do both when I had them in for service. 15 minutes of labor on each.

Any idea how much it would cost? Because if it takes 15 minutes to replace then it is a DIY job and this lawsuit is even less likely to succeed. Should be a warrantable replacement if the sensor fails within warranty and that is the end of it.

Sounds BMW-reasonable. Thanks.
