1250RS Software Version Thread

For those of us with pre-'23 RSes with the older, taller, sidestand, remember the shorter OEM stand for Asian marketis is available (part #46 53 8 564 609). Lowers it from a 7° lean to 10°. US dealers couldn't order it for a while but it's available from MAX BMW so I'm assuming your local dealer can now as well.

At last! Better late than never.  About 2 years ago I had my side stand for my '20 RS shortened. Cost was a used regular side stand and $50 to the welding shop.

I just had the bike software updated. My 2020 RS had version 011_019_180. It didn't include the sport screen as an optional display so I scheduled the update. It took about 2.5 hours and I now have version 023_012_030 which includes the sport screen display option that was not available with the apparently ancient software version I had. While that was uploaded the dealer did the cardan shaft inspection and testing since the BMW service records showed it as not done yet and I've got 16,000+ miles. (I had informed the service manager that last September I replaced it as PM since I had a new in the box one sitting on my shelf and that was about 1,250 miles ago.) Surprise result - it failed their testing! So I now have another new cardan shaft in my RS. Go figure that. I suppose the lesson learned is, get your cardan shaft checked out.

Several years ago we tried to order the shot stand and the dealer was not able to order it.
The part number was not in the US system. It was available for a short time in the US but we missed the window,

Before we picked up our 2022 RSs the end of October 2021 I asked the dealer to do a software update.
We're still on that version.

Hmmm ... I too have a new one I bought as PM when the price dropped from $1200 to over $200 ... it is still in the packaging (such as it is ... cardboard wrapper). I wonder if that would fail too if used within 1250 miles. Since it is likely the same design as the one they just put in 2-3 weeks ago, who is to say that this new one won't fail the test on their test jig in that time frame. 

This shaft nonsense does not impress, I tell you.

Has anyone looked at a shaft from a Guzzi, or Triumph. How are they different?

GG, I had the same thought. It could be I somehow got a defective one but I suppose only time will tell. However it doesn't make me feel any better about the whole cardan shaft business.
