Motorcycle Consumer News folding ...

At first when I read that Motorcycle Consumer News was folding I wondered what would The Missenden Flyer use now, for his monthly Bike News videos on YouTube.

Well it so turns out that the MCN News Magazine (small newspaper) that is published in the UK is not the same as this MCN, based in Delaware. That is good news because the UK MCN has some good articles and news items, even if they are UK-centric.

I was never a reader of the US Motorcycle Consumer News largely because I was not really aware of it, but I am sure several of you read it and are probably disappointed to see its demise.

I used to get it back when it was called Road Rider.
I think that was in the 80s.

Don't blame you. I would have done the same.

The truth of the matter is that paper media cannot compete with electronic digital media when it comes to driving profits, speed / agility. That, added to the fact that the young people these days have been demonstrated to have a lacklustre interest in motorcycling while we are fading away, means that the interest is also not what it used to be.

We can say what we like about the good old days when we were able to take our nice glossy magazines and enjoy a good read, whether it is in the hammock or on the throne. But the ability to also read today's publications on the phone or tablet (more portable - can carry the whole library and it gets no heavier or bulkier!) and participate in discussions or write a letter or comment, or check out an advertisement immediately before we forget, etc. etc is very persuasive to me.

It is even more important, if we still want to get good info, that we all do our part an support online websites, fora, YouTube, Instagram, or whatever. If not then it will all fade away with us. Chris Harris is one who has recognized the importance of this, and he has been cataloguing his knowledge for years, now in even more earnest.
