Bag Liner recommendations?
#1
Hi all,

I thought I could use my KTM SA-S bag for the left pannier, but, noooooo! Went on a trip like a hillbilly--multiple small bags and crap just falling out every time I stopped. Wanna get liners I can pack easily in house and then just slide into the panniers.

What do y'all use? Recommend? Recommend avoiding?

TIA

Somehow, my hillbilly packing in St. Louis seems to work better than yours in Richmond.... (Mightn't it be 'cuz I live next to the Ozarks?)

With the OEM panniers, the Y-strap has kept all the small bags, first aid kits, brief cases, tools, and sandals in place when I open the bags on the bike.

That said, I own and have occasionally used the over-priced BMW OEM liner bags for both panniers and the top box on a few rare trips where I wanted to leave the panniers or box attached or where I'm packing less than a full pannier and don't want stuff rattling around. Convenient. They work as well as BMW OEM liners ever have.

(If you're wondering, I usually keep bikes long enough that the next buyer might have trouble finding the discontinued luggage parts.)

RKA liners. Work well and are cost effective. They are soft sided so they conform to whatever you can stuff into them and then stuff into the panniers.

On previous BMWs we have always bought the BMW bag liner but when I saw the price of the current liners I planned to check out other option.
When my wife saw how the RS liners slip into the bag without any excess material getting caught when you close the lid and the fact that the liner didn't waste any space because it's molded to the bag shape she didn't care about the cost so we each bought a set.
These are the best BMW bag liners we have owned.
Had BMWs since 1984.

Nothing to do with the liners but we really like the shelf on the bottom of the bags.
When using liners we don't use the Y straps because the shelf prevents the liner from falling out.

Another thing I like about the BMW liners is the separate area in the lid.
It's a good area for small items.

Cool, Ray. I've looked at RKA and the OEMs. I like leaving the bags on the bike when I motel-camp as well as when I tent camp and having fewer bags to keep track of. But I'm still figuring it out.

I'm with you. Especially with tent camping.

Thanks as always to Lee's gallery. As Lee's photos demonstrate the bags have good organizational capability and when camping, my left pannier bag liner acts like a chuck box, and keeps me from dumping all my belongings out on a picnic table in order to prepare dinner.

You might check out Kathys Journey Designs https://kathysmotorcyclebags.com/ I've used their liners on my 1100S and plan to get a set for the RS.

First time I am seeing these Kathy's Journey liners for the RS. I do like the 2 sets of zippers per bag and the internal zippered pocket as well as the external pouch. At $127 per pair they are even cheaper than the RKA bags that I have too, and just a tad more than one BMW liner. An even cheaper alternative at $100 / pair are the Shad X0IB36 liners which should fit the RS side cases just fine. Our cases are made by Shad and the SH35 / SH36 side cases have a similar shape.

I have heard great things about Kathy’s bags over the years. And since Floyd is a great motorcycle area, I think I’m going to give her a try. Thanks, y’all!

It appears the zipper on the Shad does not allow you to completely open the bag.
It would be hard to see into that bag to remove something when the liner is still in the bike pannier.
I think Bestem has the same zipper arrangement.

Kathy bags have a good reputation.
It's nice that you can visit her shop and check the bags out.

Yeah I noticed that and for me that is the only negative. I do like to unzip the whole side and flip it back out of the way. Makes loading of bulkier items such as CPAP and sneakers easier.

Great. Looking forward to pictures of them stuffed full, before and after insertion into the panniers.

+2 on Kathy's. I just got back from using these liners on a four-day camping trip. The liners fit the cases perfectly and make packing/unpacking a breeze. The outside zippered pocket is a great feature. It is easily accessed without taking the liner out of the case and is great for items that might be needed frequently or quickly. The overall quality is good and certainly up to the task required. Zippers are average YKK, so that may be an issue a long time into the future. Overall, Kathy's bag liners get 5/5 TriangleRider points.
