Always. I am riding the S1000R with a plug in it until it wears out. Of course I am monitoring it closely. It’s holding air better than the other three tires.

I just put RS4's on for a trip. My PR5's have 1700 miles on them, I'll save them for when these wear out. I've been on trips where other riders ran out of tire. Typically you lose at least a day, more if it's Sunday or Monday, assuming you can find a tire and a shop to do the work. Pain in the ass is absolutely correct, for you and anyone travelling with you.

I probably change tires sooner than most.
Here's my tire when I changed it with 8,500 miles and 3/32 inch depth at the red line.
Here's Deb's when changed at 7,700 miles and 2.5/32 inch depth at the red line.

They're gone.
Those are from 2019 when I ordered tires and had the vendor ship them to Texas where the place we stayed had a tire changer.
Debbie's went to recycle and I gave mine to a friend when I found out he needed a tire to get back to Kansas. He did not want to buy a new tire in Texas as he had a new set waiting at home.
If anyone thinks about changing tires on a trip, several times we have ordered tires and had them shipped free to a location where I knew I could get them mounted.
A couple times I had the tires shipped to a private owned motel that had a shop close by.
I would call the motel owner and ask if they were ok with me sending tires and I would call the shop and ask if they would mount tires I had not purchased from them.

If you wrap the 2 tires together with some stretch wrap in 4 different spots around the tires with no other shipping material other then the shipping label and drop them at the post office it is generally around $25.00. I have shipped some used tires back to Dunlop for them to evaluate and this is how I ship them to their desired location.

Lee if you and Debbie were not taking a road trip and just riding around your home area; which I believe you usually do not do a lot, and knowing you could avoid riding in rain by just staying at home would you run these tires you took off another 1500 miles?

Yes.
Mine would probably go another 1,500 to 2,000 miles. That would leave the tire with 1/32" to 2/32" tread which I feel is the minimum safe tread depth.
I think there has only been two times I put used times back on and that was when they had half or more tread remaining.
If I had my own tire machine I might do it more often.

HI all,
As promised an up-date on the Avon Spirit ST's
Now at 1600 miles on them and they are superb, silent, comfortable and great grip wet or dry. They just do what tyres should!
The Sport TFT setting and the IMU says 31deg left and 30 right, my IMU between my ears says 'thats far enough'
The dual compund rubber is just visable on rear.
I will let you know how they last if covid lets us travel anywhere.

No more than that.
But living in a rural area and wishing to get to my 84th birthday is is not sensible to try for max lean when there could be cowshit, mud, dust or just a tractor coming the other way half round the corner.
This has kept me on the tarmac since 1955 rather than in hospital.
Plus I have a clean licence even though averaging above the legal limit most of the time.

I mounted up new RS3 tires the other day. The old ones had 9100 miles on them, and had some life left. But I'm heading on a short trip and really wanted the fun of new rubber, so and early change. As before, the rear is a real b**tch to get on the rim. But I done it! The front goes on real easy. Next is the balance. The rear tire needed fully 2 ounces to balance out. Directly opposite the tpm location. That's eight of the 7 gram weights. I even rotated the tire yellow dot to try and improve things, but that made no difference. Are you guys seeing that much weight needed? Anyone know how much the tpm dohicky weighs?
A road test came up smooth, so I'm heading out next Monday for the Northeast Kingdom.

Two ounces sounds about right as I checked my wheels a while back and came up with around 2 1/2 oz. to balance the wheel without a tire.

Congratulations Bob. Yes I have only fought with the rear tires and am yet to achieve success. After the last time I tried, I also bought some tire irons so next time I might meet with success. Good to hear that the front tire is much easier. Yes my rear tire has a lot of weights on it as well. The TPMS is not that heavy. Here is the weight of one that Darrell sent me some time ago for me to try and replace the battery on ... as you know it is a bear of a replacement (designed not to be replaced, actually).

My Dunlop RS4's balanced out with 38.5G/1.36oz on the rear tire. The front took 42G/1.48oz. It looks like I'll get 8k consistent miles from my Dunlops. Much better than the Michelin Road 5's (regular, not GT), which were toast at 5k. Accumulating the miles quicker since, with my job change, I'm now able to commute with the RS.

GG. Please don't look at my rim when next we meet up. I marked it quite badly getting that tire on. The older I get, the less patience I have with things mechanical. Years back I never would have been this sloppy in my workmanship.

One of the guys I know uses straps to help get the tire on the wheel.
Here's a video. Sound is not the best but you can see the procedure.
I've seen it done with zip ties but straps look like a better idea.

I hear you totally. Same experience and same reasons.
Did I see somewhere that someone had found an acceptable touch-up paint for our rims? I'd love to try and repair my damage, which in my case came from the concrete driveway as I was breaking the bead of the tire. Looks like light curb rash.
