Thanks for sharing BMW Motorrad UK's response on your enquiry. I guess absence of a sensible and viable theft deterrent protocol like coding it to the VIN is not a "defect" (which I also understand) and as a result cannot be covered by any sort of warranty.

Likewise, given that there are all these "unprotected" TFTs out there, they can't go around offering goodwill cash to all who report stolen TFTs, hence their response. The leading paragraph is just a small-talk marketing BS preamble.

Let's hope that they are learning from this new phenomenon and actually do a better / competent job of securing these TFTs, as opposed to simply paying lip service and offering statements that non-specifically say that they "... continuously innovates and strengthens the layers of security across our vehicle range ..."

It's a sad thing when we pay our hard-earned money for nice things such as motorbikes with state-of-the-art TFT displays only to create a new black market for the illegal sales of same. Yes, there is insurance but because of this there is increased insurance premiums as the cost of the claims are passed on to the insured.
