I have NEVER gotten 8,000 miles out of a front or rear motorcycle tire. EVER and I've been riding on pavement since 1970. I've been running Roadsmart 4 for the last few riding seasons. Granted I'd rather swap out my tires earlier than later and I tend towards softer compound tires. I just figure one riding season = one set of tires. IMHO, new tires are an investment in safety. Just my $.02 YMMV :-)
