You did the right thing. I now have the sport seat. No difference. A couple of years ago, I swapped my seat for a sport seat (from a bike on the showroom floor) for a test ride. The gap wasn’t present on the showroom bike, but still was on mine. Apparently there is a mounting detail that is slightly different on some bikes.

Hmmmm ... you might be right. In the Wunderlich HQ parking lot when we all visited Hendersonville, I tried Darrell's Sport Seat on my bike and the gap was closed. Maybe your tank fairings are mounted a little higher, which is weird given that these bikes are mass-produced.
