Some areas you can make almost as good time on the 2 lane because of high speed limits and very few towns to slow you down.
Oh I have seen some places here in Texas where the speed limits (in my opinion) are too high for the [back] roads they are on, and in those cases I ride slower - I ride what the road (and my capability) can handle. Sometimes that is slower than the limit and sometimes it is faster, although I tend to not exceed +10 mph.
These places with the imprudent speed limits often have houses either side with driveways leading directly to the roads. Its like the people who set the speed limits figure that those people matter less ...?
I was thinking roads like this one in Nebraska.
