Perfect example, thanks! Almost all of my riding is within 300 miles of home: lots of commuting and some overnight rides. On longer day-trips I still want to carry different warmer or cooler gloves, a jacket liner, water, etc. Not enough to Terra del Fuego, but more than fits in a small tank bag. Let me put it this way, with the K1300S sport bags, my wife and I could overnight and rarely had to expand the bag. In the attached picture of my former K1600GT you can barely see the bags with the narrow (Hornig) lids, painted to match the rest of the bike. Yes, I could have put on the original lids in about five minutes but never needed to. Also, for me, commuting on a bike with huge saddle bags is like using a Chevy Suburban to get yourself to work. Unless you need to carry a whole lot of stuff, it's wasted capacity.
